I have a site i'm setting up that will have hundreds if not thousands of txt files. theres NO way i want to make a page with a link to every one. I wanted my server just to point to a directory and it would show everything in that directory, without the index file. I've seen this on other sites, just can't get it to work on Abyss. Its like it NEEDS to point to a specific file.

Not at all.

Make your link to the directory with no page specified. Do not put an index.html file in the directory.

Make sure Automatic Directory Indexing is set to Yes in the Advanced section of Server Configuration, as shown in the manual, here :

maybe i spoke too soon! i'm trying to have a buddy log into it and it keeps doing a time out on him. i'm on a cable connection, the server is a 400mhz AMD with 128mb ram and a 4gig drive. The server is pulling from a second slave drive that has 200gigs.

any ideas?

Rubbish, ZA does not suck it down to poor configuration by the user, I suggest you configure your firewall before you comment on how sucky a product is, if you really want a sucky firewall, go norton or McAfee, some thing I have experience in and can say that those Two are about the worst firewalls I have ever ran, ZA I have used for 7 years with no hack unlike Norton and McAfee.

If you got hacked with Norton or McAfee, it's down to 'poor configuration by the user'.

Any of the big PC firewalls are pretty much the same in terms of protection, it depends on the user being able to cope with the interface though. I'd admit, Norton's is awful. They butchered AtGuard on which it is based, same with McAfee - however, when properly setup, they will provide the same amount of protection as ZA, Kerio or any other professional product.

Regardless, there's no need to jump into a solved topic to slate someone's opinion on what caused the problem.

And thing is it was configured.... My whole point of stating as such, by experience and such like. Norton couldnt do what ZA could. Stop my machine from being hacked.

In all seriousness, I tried all of the major ones including Kiero and BlackICE of which BI was a joke, er, hello, sense of reality here, bunch of muppets... WHAT IF you already have an infected machine from some exploit future or otherwise..., so what if you only block incoming connections, its the crap thats leaving my machine IM more worried about!!! Like having a screen door in a submarine... Very leaky.

Yes, like I always say, theirs no software substitute for proper configuration.

i comment based on my usage of 2yrs and experience. some programs i use it simply conflicts with. pure and simple. it will NOT work with them. I use Sygate now and have no problems
