Hello there.

Can I run Abyss Web Server and ActiveHTML on an external USB hard drive on my computer?

Also, would the external hard drive require an operating system of its own, or would it use the Windows XP that is on my C:/ drive?

Thanks in advance :)

Some things to note with Abyss on another drive:

When you plug in a USB device, the drive letters will change with different configurations. This will cause problems, especially with scripting languages. You should stop the Abyss host and manually configure the abyss.conf file. Each absolute filesystem path should become relative.

For example: e:\abyss web server\htdocs\ --> /abyss web server/htdocs/

Just copy the entire Abyss dir (with your htdocs), your ActiveHTML distro, edit your Abyss.conf file, and switch computers! Everything should work -- even if you change operating systems (WinXP, Win98...).

I beleive if you edit the conf file and use a dot "." as the start of a location it will use the drive root, meaning it can be any drive letter and still run correctly.
