I am interested in making programs (like how aprelium makes web servers, but im not goinna make web servers :P) but i have absolutly no experiance in it (onless you count visual basic, that i can program) so does anyone know where i could get started in something like this?
NOTE: I dont know what i want to make, something simple so i can test my skills, then get into something more complicated _________________ Where have i been? School got heck-tick, had to move half way around the state, then back... and then i had to change jobs, so iv been away for a while :P |

I would just go down to a barnes and noble and pick up just about any book. I personally like Thompson publishing when it comes to computer learning...they have some good authors plus usually all the source is on the cd included and they give you a compiler to use. _________________

hc2995,
We suggest starting with a scripting language such as Python. It is powerful and can teach you many advanced topics (such as object oriented programming). _________________ Support Team

Delphi (which uses pascal) is also a very good way to go. It also uses OOP as python does. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

By the way, Borland has released new free light versions of their development tools: http://www.turboexplorer.com/ . You can find there Turbo Delphi and several other IDEs for other languages. _________________ Support Team

Community project? Now that sounds fun. Do you have any ideas for one yet? _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I took a course on Flash and Actionscript over this last summer. It was quite informative, and I learned alot. Actionscript is a really neat language to mess with. _________________

You mean for the web? You can do this with just about anything, DHTML, PHP, javascript, ETC..... Search google for "Web page drop down menus" (i got about 25 million hits) _________________ Where have i been? in flash? its not that hard and can be done by utilizing the on(rolOver) correctly with a symbol. That was one of the first things I was taught on how to do stuff with symbols _________________

We are thinking about creating a web space for hosting projects initiated by Abyss Web Server users (web design, scripts, or other web utilities). _________________ Support Team
