So yes I need help with this.

I recently have ADSL and got a multiPCmodem with that. Now to prevent to
have 4 cables of 15 meters going to my pc-corner I only used 1 en attached a router. And it works. Now on one workstation I run Abyss.

And I can't get it configured. There has to be a way I guess.
I have tried lots of stuff configuring the multiPCmodem, configuring
the sweex router, can't get it done.

I have a static IP, so I know how to be reached. From the multiPCmodem
it goes to my router which has a private-LAN ipaddress 10.0.0.2, than I have
workstation which has the 192.168.2.100 IP.

Anyone know how I should handle this?? I did not get an error yet, but only
Page cannot be loaded.

Thanks in advance!

Try going to www.portforward.com and see if it lists your router. You need to enable "port forwarding" in the modem (if needed/supported) and in the router.

Thanks Andy,

I went wrestling with this portforwarding and what do you know??? I won !!
Yes I got it working now... that is to say for the donkey, but I am convinced
it will work for Abyss to now, just forward port 80 in both the multiPCmodem
and the router. That did the trick. And I had to use 10.0.0.2 for portwarding
from mPm-->router.

Great and thanks a lot !

Ahum, hate to dissapoint, but it does not work yet for Abyss.
Did the same as I did for the donkey with portforwarding.

But, when I want to reach it via the internet it doesn't.
I give in http://mystaticIP and than it should work, no?
Or should I add something to that line ??
Already tried http://mystaticIP/mysite, cause I called it that,
also tried http://mystaticIP/mysite;8080, none of it works...

What can be the problem, you know by chance ??
Thanks for your help.

It should work with just your IP. If you have changed the port to one other than 80 then it should be http://your_ip:port.

OK it still does not. Now I can see in my monitor of my firewall that a
svchost.exe was using my port 80, so now I configured also port 9999
to listen to, cause I see in my firewall abyss listen to that too.
I just don't get it. It doesn't work.
That svchost is not using 80 anymore, so that's not the problem.
Strange.

Are you sure its not just you that cant access it? Your modem or router might not support loopback. In which case other people can see it but you cant (not through your WAN IP anyway).

Try www.proxify.com to see if it works on there.

Aha, that could be it, yes, seems logical.
But proxify.com is not accessible... the have this message:

Due to extremely high usage, Proxify is temporarily allowing access only to paid subscribers. hmmm color does not work...

There's a word btw. I can see a 'loop' in the IP Address Table in the multiPCmodem. It says 127.0.0.1/8 where /8 is the netmask...??
Does this mean loopback is supported??
Or should I remove that line in my mPm??
Thanks

OK, have send him a PM asking him to stop by over here.

Btw, downloaded and use activeports and porttriggering. While I let porttrigger send packages a look in activeports what is going on... I see a TIME_WAIT on all packets sent through port 80... strange, right?

Well, we wait what TRUSTpunk has to say about the loop...
Thanks!

OK, Trustpunk, added you to my MSN-messenger, you'll be notified of that.
Although I do not quite understand why you wanted me to ad you... but that will be clear soon I guess...
Hope you can help with this.
Before I put my website online, I want a few people to watch critical to the
building of it. So I run Abyss and have the website run locally. I always ran
on cable-modem, but recently I got ADSL, which gives me problems.
I also want to run a FTP-server, which will give me the same problems I guess. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm extremely good with the Router Networking part when it comes to getting
Abyss Web Server online. I may need to do a Remote Admin to review some
settings before I can determine the problem, but not always.

I'm currently waiting for you to log online.

Oops sorry, went out to have dinner with friends this evening, just got in.
Wow, did not know that, sorry for that.

I right away logged in in messenger... and you're still there.
Are you able to do it now?
I have to have Abyss open I presume.
Tnx.

You certainly did TRUSTpunk, and thanks again.

It was like you said The Inquisitor. It already worked, still as you said,
I was unable to reach it out of my own LAN. TRUSTpunk made that possible.
So, now I can view my website locally. On 2nd thoughts, of course I already
could do that with the built in preview function in Frontpage.

As said to Josh, it's a website of my ICT-Buro to start in about six months.
I already have a domain and am going to place my website over there, but
not untill it is completely finished and all that is mentioned in it is correct.
This gives me the possibility to give an inside look to fellow compagnyowners
to look at it and give their comments.

I am not going to publicly announce my ip-address over her Andy, but if you
also want to have a peek at it I'll PM you my IP, or Josh may also do that.

Thank you guys for all your help. We'll talk again soon, I'm sure.
Greatly appreciate both your drives and knowledge and the will to help!

I mostly stop a reply with Tnx, but already did it so often... ah well...
TNX!!!

Two months ago already. It worked untill now.
I get messages that I cannot be reached to view my site.
Now that is strange. Are you still out here??
Can you pls check if my Abyss webserver is reachable to
view my site? My ip = http://82.93.220.197
I asked the same question to my provider and they have
not come up with anything.
Thanks in advance.

frehen,

http://82.93.220.197 is unreachable. Have you checked your port forwarding settings? Are you using DHCP on the computer running Abyss Web Server or is it set to have a static IP?

If it is using DHCP, chances are that your computer got a new IP address from the router and the port forwarding rule is no more valid. To solve the problem, make your computer use a static IP (inside your local network) as explained in http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm, and update the port forwarding rule to use the new IP.

Also your Internet IP could no longer be the same. Some ISP`s use "sticky" IP`s which means you keep it as long as your modem is switched on. My ISP does the same. I have kept the same IP for months at a time or just a few days depending if I turn my modem off or not. Go to www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip.php to find out if it has changed.

Thanks for your reply guys.
That's the reason why I report again, because all settings seem to be
right, still, there's no way some1 can reach me.

I'll tell it again. I have a Thomson Speedtouch MultiPC modem, which I
got from my ADSL Provider. There I can read my ip, which I mention above.
This modem has 4 ports to connect to PC's, but I use only one of them.
That one goes to my sweex broadband router at which all my pc's are
connected. The inside private LAN has an ip which is 10.0.0.1 and all my PC's have ip's in the range of 192.168.2.100 - 105. The router is the DHCP.

The PC Abbyss is working on has a static ip 192.168.2.100 .
In the Thomson modem I have portforwarded port 80 to this inside ip.
In my router I also made a virtual server for port 80 to this inside ip.
So my guess is, it should run !! Well, it doesn't.
So I don't get it.

Same problem I have btw when I send some1 a file via sendlink. It does not work, even though I opened up and portforwarded the needed ports.
What could this be? Provider blocking stuff on port 80 maybe?
Thanks for your advice.

Using DHCP will not help. If the PC's do not get the same IP as aprelium said the port forwarding rule will no longer apply.

Also your internet IP could have changed. Check it on my website www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip . Your modem/router may be lying about the IP.

Also try changing port as your ISP may have decided to blog port 80.

Try those three things and tell us the results.

I can disable the DHCP in the router and give each PC a static ip-address,
that I can do. But as long as I start this pc it always gets 192.168.2.100, really always. I think it is due to the first port it is in on the router.

My IP has not changed, your site tells me the exact IP as mentioned.

Changed the port Abyss is listening to to 8081. Changed that in the Thomsonmodem and changed it in the router. So it should be
http://82.93.220.197/8081 or should I use ;8081, dunno.
Hopefully this works.
