To explain myself, I am not a software developer.
However I do have a web site which I paid for to be host.
Which I need and want to be able to host my web site on my own server.
And I honestly do not understand some of the features with in Abyss in both versions.
My actual intentions are to be able to use Microsoft FrontPage to develop my web site. And some other applications as well, for instance flash, avi, Java, images.
And I would like to be able to use something or some program that would easily track visitors at my web site.
The reason for that is in order to be able to offer information that may help others in tutorials.
My interest is not to really have to learn a lot about servers software, and that I believe from some of the information I understood Abyss is the easiest to configure.
So therefore in order to support Abyss and the development of this software I purchased it.
My actual interest is an 3-D animation. Which in itself is a very difficult program to learn. I did not want to have to learn other programs in order to really share information. Nor can I afford.
So therefore I will be asking for your support and help. Which will be extremely appreciated. To help me to quickly understand the nuances of Abyss. So I can quickly get my web site up and running.
Last week I was on the phone all day for solid week, talking to my Internet provider. Getting IP address. And directing it at my server. Which was a big waste of time. Because I had the problem with port configuration. Which was very quickly solve by the support of the people with in this forum. Which I will thank you once again for your support and good information. You help me solve that problem in less than 12 hours.
Now which do you suggest, Abyss free, or Abyss V2.3.
   |

Abyss free is X1, and Abyss Professional is X2. I recommend that you get
the Professional version since you're going to be sharing AVI files. Here is
a good reason to get the Professional version.
.Bandwidth Limits
You can use this feature to limit the bandwidth speed for your AVI movie
files. Another great thing about this, is the ability to limit bandwidth over
the entire Host. This feature is very customizable.
Does this answer your question? |

Hi TRUSTpunk
Yes, I noticed that feature in Abyss Pro X2.
The next question is exactly where do I place my web site with in Abyss.
One of my problems is being able to see my web site through my computers browser, to make sure it is working properly. On the worldwide Web. I have several computers. I am using dsl modem, hardwired to a computer, browse the Web with. However the machine I am sharing my web site is wireless. So I can move that machine anywhere I would like to park it.
This is something I have learned from the maker of the DSL modem, has some software within. If I use my domain name or static IP address on the hardwired computer data shows this software within the DSL modem. Not my web site.
So than makes working with this software kind of a big question for me. Isn't working or did I make a mainstay.

Firefly,
There are two edition of the software: Abyss Web Server X1 (free) and X2 (professional).
Both have the same version number: 2.3. Actually both versions share many features and the the same user guide since they have the same user interface.
The major difference is that X1 is limited to hosting a single web site while X2 can host several web sites on the same computer without needing additional IP addresses. _________________ Support Team
