|
|
Hello everyone...
Here's my problem. I'm using Abyss X1 on my home PC. Running Windows 2000 Pro. Linksys wireless router, BellSouth DSL. My router is set up for PPPoE, which requires me to enter my BellSouth id and password for my user account (stay alive time is set to 20). I'm being assigned a new IP at random intervals. ISP says that to have a static IP costs extra. Is there anyway around this? Maybe increasing the stay alive time or something to keep my IP from changing? Thanks for the help. _________________ To sin by silence when we should protest, makes cowards out of men. |

There should be a dial on demand check box, if you uncheck that, then your router should stay connected 24/7. As long as the DSL/ADSL does not pick up interference and disconnect. |

There is a dial on demand checkbox, but it is deselected. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the "Keep Alive Redial Period"... if so, then what do I set the redial period for? Thanks! _________________ To sin by silence when we should protest, makes cowards out of men. |

Keep alive stops the ISP dropping the connection by faking activity on the line at the interval period you have set. If the connection is lost anyway, you will be assigned a new WAN IP address if it is dynamic. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

OK, so it may not be the keep alive redial period. Anymore ideas... besides having to request and pay extra for a static IP? Thanks! _________________ To sin by silence when we should protest, makes cowards out of men. |

Might I add (again) that WAN IPs are assigned by your ISP and only they can assign a new IP? This is my understanding of it anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong.:) |

There is no way around this unless you use dyndns or no-ip, or you pay the extra ($3 is it???) for a static IP. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
