The worst thing about coming to forums to ask for help is when you're in my situation...you ask for help, you give a long list of things you checked. When the problem eventually is solved, its usually something stupid and simple...but I've been tech support, and known people who have, so I figured, I may as well put up that list as a sort of barrier against the stuff I checked...

It works now, we spent over 30 seconds changing port forwarding and ports ;-)
EDIT: I also persuaded him to change his sig size and change it to a jpeg.
