setting up email

Could someone walk me through setting up an email server (I think that's what I want) so that I can use the mail() function of PHP and actually have it mail emails? That would be just spiffy.

I tried searching, but got nowhere...

I don't care what app you tell me to use, as long as it works. It'll be installed on a computer I never ever use (cept as a server) so I don't care how crappy the app looks, as long as it works.

P.S. It's a Winblows XP server

use the qk smtp server
and you are done.

it is shareware,but is simple and good.

hmailserver is good and its free http://www.hmailserver.com i suggest you read the documents on how to set it up properly :-)
