Pentium 3 750 Mhz
256 RAM
10 Gig HD
I want another computer just to serve as a server for my forum, anyone know if this would do the job???
I have 25kB/s upload speed..... anyone have any tips on making a server run faster?? Maybe I should get rid of the avatars? How big of a difference would disabling avatars make? |

This sounds like a great server. Abyss doesnt take any more than 33mhz to run (probably lower) but its scripting languages such as PHP that requires more CPU. 750Mhz, is ample amount.
256MB RAM is also ample but the more the better if running a server.
10GB HD is also good but I recommend you partition it for your OS, Backup and Websites. If the OS fails or is damaged you wont have to erase the whole drive, hence saving vital website and backup data.
25KB/s upload is also fine. Mine is the same but all my websites run at 10KB/s to stop my browsing becoming interrupted. If you want as fast as possible, use a global limit of 20KB/s this way if someone uses the whole bandwidth your browsing wont be interrupted.

| all im running on it is a phpbb2 forum along with MySql database, and hMailServer. Well, it has to be a good deal, im practiacally getting it for free, I traded an old router to a friend of mine and he traded me this. |
