You can use avatars... Just use the img tag in BB code and upload an image to somewhere like image shack if you cant use your own server.

Ah right... Maybe its disabled to save server space and bandwidth. Thats the only reason I can think of.

Do avatars make you feel special? The huge signatures that most of the regulars have on here are bad enough (thank god for the Adblock extension) - I don't give a damn about how many zillion scripting languages your server has installed, your QOTD or your huge zany images. I love the low clutter, low bandwidth approach to the current forum.

Remote url avatars are a security, or at least annoyance, risk. It's simple to spoof the image size to 100x100 for a particular referrer and redirect to something huge for others, disrupting the forum.

Motion to keep avatars removed and remove all the pointless sigs too.

Hmm, I wont do that but I will argue over keeping the sigs, no to avatars but yes to sigs :-)

My goodhockey signature goes on all forums.
I wouldn't mind an avatar too though.

You can disable signatures I believe if you want to, so it doesn't bother people who don't want to see peoples signatures.

Yes, 100*100 would be nice. There are MODs available that resize ones bigger than that, in the event that that could be used as a reason why not. Remote Avatars probably wouldn't hurt anything.

IwaJP,

The forum has lived more than 3 years without and we don't see the added value of avatars (except the loss of bandwidth, secuirty problems, and pages that take more time to load).
