This product should work for you. Aprelium does support the free version of Abyss WS...

Also, we need more information, like what you have tried, your computer and network setup, your abyss setup, what ports your ISP blocks, etc.

I have a Netgear DG814 with port 80 forwarded to the internal IP 192.168.0.4
I use DynDNS to sort out the Dynamic IP from BTBroadband, No ports are restricted as it is a business connection.
The PC is running XP Pro with service pack 2 and all recent updates installed. It has AVG personal antivirus running also up todate, and Sygates personal firewall with Abyss allowed.

I have used the basic setup running on port 80 I have tried different ports at random with the same results.

I can see the default Abyss webpage but when I change to my own Index page I get cannot be found.

My original site was hosted by BT Internet and worked fine but now I find I need more space, so as I had a spare pentium 4 PC around thought I would host my own site.

the original site can be found at http://www.btinternet.com/~mike.philliskirk

the new site at www.philliskirk.me.uk

the pages are built using a program called Familia Builder by DrAlex

anything else I need to tell you let me know

d0gp1l3,
Go into your console and see what you have configured for your Documents Path of Default Host.
Make sure that it's the same as the folder that contains your own index page.

OK, I have to ask...
(Your level of experience is not known, so humor me...)

What is the name of the folder you have the index page in? htdocs?
What, exactly, do you have for your Documents Path setting? C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs ?
Is this correct?

Oops, I was editing my post when you replied. ;)
I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Abyss to see if that helps.
I've never seen this behavior in my installation and I have pretty much the same setup as you.

This sounds like there is a cache issue at work somewhere.

I'm sorry I don't have the solution to your problem.
Hopefully, Aprelium will give you better answers.

Installing and reinstalling Abyss Web Server won't help. It is your browser which is giving you the same page from its cache. SO change your browser caching policy, flush its cache, or force it to get the page from the server by pressing CTRL+F5 or CTRL+SHIFT+R.

If you read the problem it has nothing to do with cache, I can see the default Abyss Index page but when I replace it with my own Index Page I get cannot be found (with or without the cache being cleared)

ahh... have you tried checking the file extension? because if the file extenison is not addes to the index file list it wont pick it up! like if you are using php you need to add index.php to the index files

what is your new index page called?

By default only index.htm, or index.html will be recognised as index pages.

When I leave the Abyss index page in the htdocs folder I can see it. When I change to my Index page after removing the Abyss one I and my m8 cannot see it.

Both are visible to me through localhost (127.0.0.1)

It seems to work, however I can't get your index page.
I can get philliskirk.me.uk/OhGod-404 as a 404 but not philliskirk.me.uk/.
Does your index page work for you?

Is your index file dynamic? (I class dynamic as powered by a CGI: ASP, PHP, Perl, etc.)
If its called exactly "index.html" as I think I read above and the default index file worked, I would guess its a coding error or something.

No custom error, just a bog standard 404 error.

so I might need someone who can code to sort this out?

My index.html is made up of frames (I think) and calls 5 other html pages
Main.html
TopLeft.html
TopRight.html
Left.html
Bottom.html

So could it be too complex for Abyss to run?

Too complex? This has nothing to do with Abyss - Abyss would serve the default index, it is the user's browser which requests the rest of the frames after parsing the index page. Abyss just returns what is requested.

What happens when you make a totally basic "Hello World" type index page and replace the standard installed one with it?

What happens if you simply modify the existing, working, page? eg. Open it up and just add "Testing 1 2 3" or whatever to the bottom.

Edit : As of 16:00 GMT, it all seems to be working perfectly ?

Abyss doesn't touch it, no such thing.
For some reason it is something to do with your coding on main.html. I've never heard of HTML causing this before, and can't see how it could really.
I can access them all apart from main.html, telnet just hung on GET /main.html.
Could you post the source to it?

The Abyss page original or modified works ok

Just a stab in the dark; try renaming it to main2.html or something, and change index.html to reflect.
Clueless to why thats happening, the source looks just fine.
