CAn some one please help? I have a dynamic IP address that seems to change several times a day but am running abyss and directing my domain name to my IP. The probl;em here is that I have to update this IP on the domain several times a day all of a sudden.

My ISP will nt provide me with a static IP and say the best way around is to spoof my IP address.

My question is where do I get free software to do this and how do I go about it?

If any one knows where and how then please please please email me at adriansite@blueyonder.co.uk as I can not check the board that often.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

If someone from NTL's technical support told you to 'spoof your IP address' they'd obviously been drinking on duty. Your IP is needed to connect to your PC. If you somehow magically spoofed it to something else, no one would be able to connect. The sensible solution would be to find a dynamic update client supported by your DNS host, or switch to ZoneEdit.com and use their client to keep your IP up to date with your domain name.

Thank you for your reply here and I have to say that I did wonder! I have found that DnsExit do this service for me, my only question to their services is if I am still going to get the frame on top from 123reg that i have my domain registered with. I have used 123reg and transfered the nameservers over to DnsExit in the hope that the domain request will go to 123reg, then through nameserver be passed to DnsExit and then from thgem to me. Hers hoping as I really donw want my IP to be the url!

Any thoughts if Im right on this assumption or not?

If you allready have a domain, I'd go with dnsdns. I've never used it personally, but some servers my ones linked with use it, and it seems to work okey for them.
Spoofing a TCP packet is very hard (Even with the appropriete software.) and is only one way, really. Im pretty sure that spoofing packets is also illegal, so I wouldnt go trying it.

Bzzzt. Not at all. It' s easier on Linux but not much more work on Windows with the WinPCap library.

Example, http://www.hping.org/manpage.html

Sort of right. Obviously if you spoof an IP in a request, the reply won't go back to you, but if you spoof a valid IP, it will go somewhere...

That would depend entirely on whether you're doing something illegal to start with... It's more likely to be against ISP ToS than illegal, and obviously if you're doing it on your own LAN, it's your own business.

All the tools I have are over 5 years old, before the authorities went nazi on all things slightly hacking-related. Dont recall seeing anything similar to that before. (Difficulty wise.)

I meant, its not feasable to run a server that needs to be accessed by spoofing an IP header.

Read something on astalavista about people being prosecuted for it, because it was making innocent people get blamed for offences. (Obviously, use-related, but its still not an advertised-practice.)
