Hey Guys,
- Just wondering when you purchase a domain name how do you get it to redirect to the server (abyss). Do you just put in the domain twice? When I have had dedicated server I always had to put in like:
ns1.omg.com
ns2.omg.com
Thanks :) |

If you want your domain to direct to abyss you make a CNAME or A record and thats it. If you want, go on msn and I will help you out seeing how i already know your address. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I'm setting this up for my friends dad.
I have now reigstered the domain: thedrywalldoctors.com
I have Abyss X1 setup and running and have configured the router.
I have use no-ip.org to set up a CNAME: thedrywalldoctors.no-ip.org
What i'm asking is how to get: thedrywalldoctors.com to direct to abyss webserver.
For example how you did with abyssunderground going to your server PC. |

Yes I know, all you do is add a CNAME called www to the dns records and make the data you.no-ip.org or whatever the address is and that should be it. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I'm still confused...
so where do I set this in Abyss?
Now I know 100% that I have to go back to the place I registered the domain and tell it where to go...
(EX: ns1.ladeda.com // ns2.ladeda.com) |

You don't set anything in Abyss. A domain name is part of the DNS system and requires you to set up the IP you will be using on your registrars nameservers, or use ZoneEdit.com if you do not have proper control with your registrar. _________________

i'm using godaddy as their domain register.
I was messing around and ended up 'forwarding' the domain to thedrywalldoctors.no-ip.org which isn't what i wanted =P
so when you go to thedrywalldoctors.com it will take you to the no-ip.org one (changes in address bar) which isn't what I want.
So what I think I want to change is the nameservers correct? |

OK, the f*****g gits at lycos have disabled my account because I didnt have any money in my bank when the wanted payment *ARGH*.
Ill try to explain again but in a bit more detail:
In the DNS settings you will have a list such as:
ns1.domain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
ns2.domain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
pop.domain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
smtp.domain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
www xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
* www
You need to edit the one that says 'www'. Now there should be a box called 'data'. In that box, enter the no-ip domain name that you intent to use. Also there should be another box that is a drop down menu and has options such as:
A record
CNAME
MX record
Select 'CNAME'. Now click apply settings and wait the amount of time the domain name providor tells you for dns settings to change then try the domain name and see if it directs to the server. Some DNS settings take place immidiately, others take a few hours.
Hope this helps, if not, go back onto msn again. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
