Hi. I was wondering how much Abyss can server. I know its a good program but everything breaks down and over loads. Can abyss handel strong usage sites and to waht limit before it starts to break down.

Like today a sad day fro everyone due to the terroist attack in london but all the news websites went down due to overload. Most likly due to bandwith but you get my gist.

I think aprelium said it can handle over 1000 hits a second no problem but maybe it can handle more? The general problem these days is the fact that there isnt enough bandwidth to go around.

I'm watching the london blasts on BBC News 24.

If you're running Abyss on a home DSL connection in the UK, your 256kbps upstream will be saturated long before Abyss has any problems.

Quote:

Abyss Web Server scales well even with very high traffic. We have tested it on low end machines and it served without any problem 300 hits/seconds during 24 hours.

Abyss Web Server is also protected against crashes. It never crashes but if this happens, it will restart it self immediately (see http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/features.html ).

The current site is hosted on Abyss Web Server, serves millions of hits per month, and it does not need more than 1%-5% of the processor time (a Sempron 2200) to do its job.

I heard a train was stopped in Swindon, as a suspicious package was found, but turned out to be nothing.

Or, if the thing comes up as expired, go to http://news.yahoo.com.
It's the headline now, and should be for quite some time.

yeh it is really sad and upsetting tht someone could do that. They really must have no brain or emoticians to be able to do anything.

We heard about it at work and tried all the news sites but they were all down due to overload. Tried internet radio, all down, Our real radio ran out of batteris and we had no tv, My boss didnt sumit scary got a mains lead chooped off the head of it exposed the wires opend the radio up and celetaped the wires on it and we had a radio by 11 bit dodgy but worked

The bombing in London raises an interesting question:
Would ID cards of prevented the attacks happening?

My initial reaction is no.

another interesting question is:
Could these attacks be Paris's way of getting back at London for winning the Olympic bid?
no, not really, but it is worth think about ;-)

very much doubt so. I know tht we are not tht liked but some on put ur thinking caps on. Paris would not do tht for starters to riskey of getting caught.

As for id cards, NO NO NO NO

To introuding

max_carpenter,

Abyss Web Server can handle large traffic and even peaks of connections. The real limit that affects the service are your available bandwidth and your processor speed (if you have many scripts).

In our tests, an old PIII-600 MHz with Abyss can serve with no problem 300 hits/seconds for a whole day (24 hours).
