I did not know where to post this but this seemed like the best place.
I recently aquired a 300Mhz dell laptop from half.com at a good price. I am mostly using it to edit my web files when I am not at home where my desktop is. So it is not a surprise that I would want to install abyss on it to test CGI, PHP, ect.

Anyway Abyss installed in seconds and was and still is working fine.

If anyone ever does install abyss on a laptop that is NOT currently connected to the web, Microsoft Internet explorer will ofcourse not like it when you try to access localhost host or 127.0.0.1:9999 (figures it's microsoft)
What you need to do is click Try Again not Work Offline when it says "can't find an internet connection" and it will magicaly work :)

I justed wanted to say that again abyss is great and the best server to use if you want one for a laptop!

Keep up the good work.

Here is an even easier fix then try again.

Go to Internet Options and then the connections tab, then click on set-up.

Now choose manual install, then click on next.
Now click on a LAN connection, then click next.
Now remove the check mark from "Automatically detect proxy settings", then clcik next.
Now select no to set up a mail account, then click next.
Now click on finish.

That solves the problem of work offline/try again.

The only downside of this is that whenever you want to surf the net, you must make the internet connection before using the browser.

The even better work around is to use Linux, and Konqueror or Mozilla, any of the above mentioned solutions don't look for an Internet connection when the server is set up properly.

Later

thanks for the tip on how to shut off that annoying message :)

I do use mozilla on my desktop too I am just waiting to get my wireless access point to use with my laptop before I install another browser to actually use the real internet.

Thanks again :D
