So what I've done is downloaded abyss server, installed it, and put my website in.

http://63.24.110.160:1020

When I open my IP in my browser, it works great.

Then I'll send this to a couple of my friends and nothing happens...They get a 404 error..

Why is this? How do I make this thing work correctly?

Thank you -- Ross.

You need to allow Abyss Web Server access through your Firewall/Router. I can
help you forward the ports on your router if you want , my msn is below. LateR!

I'm not running through a router, the only firewall I have is the XP one.

Are you sure they get a 404 and not a timeout or any other kind of error?

Have you allowed Abyss/incoming http traffic as an exception in Windows firewall?

Are you on a LAN ?

They specificly told me "Page not found". Which is a 404, I beleive.

Not on a lan, used to be, but it is disconnected.

I just allowed incoming traffic and I don't know if it works now, still not sure...

My IP of the day is http://63.24.58.166:1020

I'm just trying to test it out right now, the server is set up on my dial up machine, because I don't like screwing up my good computer. That shouldn't have an affect on it, being dial-up? They've only been trying it while I'm connected to the internet.

Well, it should work, just incredibly slowly... The best upload you have would be around 3k/sec. If you just used a simple text index page it would be ok for testing that your setup worked.

All I get when attempting to view your site is a timeout, not a 404. A 404 would mean it was working, or you accidentally had an ISP cache for your IP...

They're not getting a 404 error, they're getting a "Page Not Found" error most likely from Internet Explorer, meaning it didn't load for the user.

The XP firewall will prevent others from connecting to your server. That's what happened to me. I had to shut it off. Works fine now.
