|
|
OK, I used ActiveHTML until the trial ran out and now I'm in a bind. I've been looking for the older free version of the program but I can't seem to find it anywhere! I searched the forum and I did find the old ahtml_1000003.exe version. But after installing it I am still getting the same:
The evaluation period of seliSoft ActiveHTML is over.
Please visit http://www.selisoft.com/order to purchase.
Thank you for using seliSoft ActiveHTML!
Message... Does anyone still have the free version of this program? Anyone willing to share? |

After hours of pulling my hair I finally got it. I started reading threw the forums and I found where I went wrong. For anyone in the same boat I was in follow these instructions.
1. Download the old version of the software.
http://spookshow.matfors.net/filer/ahtml.zip
2. Uninstall the current version of ActiveHTML
3. Under Folder Option/View tab uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System files?"
4. In you c:\ directory you should see a funky looking file that looks like this: B42B9C2A.AA6 DELETE THIS!
5. Now install the older version of ActiveHTML
6. Test it |

Go to your c:\ directory
Click on Tools -> Folder Options
Click on the "View" tab, and scroll down the list.
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Make sure that "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" is de-selected.
Click on Apply then on OK.
You should see a file somewhere in this directory now with a name that doesn't make sense (mine was 90463A39.5EE), delete it.
My file had a size of 251bytes if that will help.
Hope this helps! :) |

Yeah...I ended up getting it.
I guess each person's file created is a completely different name and extension. Mine had an extension of .b38. |

Looks like this version isn't old enough....:(
I got the 30 day thing again and my asp quit working.....
I followed the instructions to the tee, but no workie for me....:(
And after looking at the changelog for ahtml, I don't know if I'd want to use the free version. Some of the functionality isn't there.
This may be one I'll have to buy...:| |

Were you able to find the 8 hex character file in your system root?
Such as: 8AFB2D64.2EE with a filesize of c. 250B?
That file is essential to this working. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Seems like it's still a 45-day trial...but at least after uninstalling you can reinstall it over and over...of course I don't do that, but it's possible... ;) . |

I have seen many posts about free ASP alternatives on this forum and I finally did it , to keep ASP
forever , all you have to do is set your clock back every few weeks before the trial ends , this has
only been tested on the Free Alternative ASP that some user posted on the forum and im not sure if it
will work with the newest but you can try it. This will be the only way to maintain Free ASP forever
without uninstalling your previous version. Have A Nice Day , Freeloaders :)
Download the ActiveHTML From Here !
http://spookshow.matfors.net/filer/ahtml.zip
Note: You should only use this for testing purposes only since its
illegal to actually use it after 45 days , im using it to learn ASP ! |

But setting your clock back is quite a tedious job to do--and it is definitely a bad idea if you run a mail server. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

The file will only show after the trial is over , increase the date
on your PC then look for the file after viewing an ASP script. |

No, it isn't. Look for a file with 8 characters in the file name, all in hex (meaning characters only from 0 through F). Also, the extension must also be in hex. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

You can hex edit it and totally erase the trial info, but I don't think anyone here knows how to hex a program. |

|

Hello,
I was having the same problems as the above user with my activeHTML trial running out of time. I followed the instructions you gave and the trial is now working again (N.B. only for testing of course ;-) ) Anyway for some reason CDONTS no longer functions, I get the dreaded;
------------------------------------
ServerObjectCreateObject: - Error 'ASP 0134 : 80004005'
Invalid ProgID attribute
C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\files\site\loggedin\sendmail.asp, line 246
The object has an invalid ProgID of 'CDONTS.NewMail'.
------------------------------------
error message. Am I missing a vital installation point? Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers again for the help already

It's been quite a while and still no response from this character...I'm beginning to think that he was just saying that sound smarter than what he really is...it usually IS possible to hex edit just about anything, so he could just be making a blind statement.
Notice how he didn't say he knew how? :P  Nice play on words, but he got our hopes up for nothing. :\ |

I've followed these instructions but cant find this HEX file anywhere. I've changed my folder settings to view all file types. Even tried looking in the dos window. Any ideas on why I cant find this HEX file?
Also tried rolling pc clock back and forth to no effect?

You can find this hex looking file , all you have to do is go to Folder Options
and click on View , uncheck the following boxes and look in your C:\ Drive.
Do not show hidden files and folders
Hide protected operating system files. |

Many thanks, eventually found it!
I had 'show hidden files and folders' enabled but didn't disable 'Hide protected operating system files' dispite going over it 100 times kept missing that.
Many thanks for the help, now I've got to figure out why I get a blank page when trying to access default.asp,, ho hum.. ;-)

Just go to http://www.3essentials.com/ and buy web hosting. It's as cheap as 12 dollars for first month(unless you have domain, then it's only 4 a month), then every month after its 4 bux. Surely you can afford that. Personally, I'm paying 9.95/mo for 1 gig space and every feature you could possiably think of :) visit http://www.3essentials.com/linux-web-hosting-advancedplan.asp too look at what I get. There support is great! I got answers in minutes, not hours nor days. They even reply to you in minutes if your not a customer. They're always wanting to help you. They fixed my forum for me, and they transerfered my 15 meg database from my windows server to a linux. They're great! I HIGHLY recoomend them.
But it's just a thought _________________

Actually buying ActiveHTML workstation edition now only costs about $35, so after paying for 3 months of hosting, you could have just bought ActiveHTML anyway... |

Thanks for any help. |

I could give a free subdomain (linux server) from my site with Apache ASP support, SSI support, PHP support, CGI support, mod_perl support, unlimited MySQL databases, unlimited MsSQL databases, DNS support, and mod_python support. With that, I will throw in, umm, 10 (50 megs total for all 10, or how many you want. So say you want 5 email accounts, I will distrubte the 50 megs evenually throught out the mailboxes, unless specified by you) email accounts with SMTP and POP3 abilites. Downside, you will have to ftp everything, but if your just looking for testing and learing asp, jump on this opportunity. I will give you, umm, let's see.. 65 megs of space, and if I see your using it all, I will give you more room. If you or anyone is intrested email me at truplaya3208112@yahoo.com with subject of subdomain at liquidbluex.net (or something wit liquidbluex.net in it so I know it's not spam). Please do not post your request on here, for I might not check in everytime. But otherwise I do not know of making it free unless you know how to hex edit. _________________

Sorry, I meant no disrespect to Aprelium. I loved them. They taught me alot of my webmastering skills. Great for testing or first time people.
My offer for subdomains is still open (read post above) _________________

Hey hey,
Here's a method I tried and it seemed to have worked.
When the 45/30 day evaluation runs out-
1>>Uninstall ahtml
2>>Goto your C:\ and follow the instructions in the first post to delete the hidden file
3>>Reinstall ahtml in the same place
It worked for me, but it has to be uninstalled in order for it to work. Post feedback if you have probs.
Cheers! _________________ >E-O-SRC< |

Well , you cannot serve up all ASP pages using the free version since some
of the objects are not available , thats why you should use the trial version. |
