Override, nice site.
It is Abyss. It was just a mistake.:)
Most redirection services use Apache and the header request will see it, instead of the actual site header.
http://override-graphics.myserver.org/inc/main.php returns...
HTTP Header Info
--------------------------------
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Content-Type: text/html
Connection: Close
Date: Sun, 06 Jun 2004 13:23:18 GMT
Server: Abyss/1.2.2.2 (Win32) AbyssLib/1.0.9
Good job.

You probably live too far away. I get a very high ping normally--so if you live farther away than me, it probably just times out for you.
Most people don't know how to configure Abyss in accordance with their routers, firewalls, and just other common mistakes. I personally don't see how it can be that hard, but sometimes the wrong people start using the wrong tools (not you Override, it seems in this case that you have a very slow ISP--it doesn't seem like your fault). _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I like the graphical layout, although it sort of contradicts a slow internet connection.
Also, try to have the text in the menu be displayed before you roll over them. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

wait if you baned everthing from xxx.xxx.xxx.1 to xxx.xxx.xxx.255 wouldnt that mean you baned them all because i believe xxx.xxx.xxx.255 is the greatest (or highest) ip address that any ISP can give out. _________________

I can still access it, but why would anyone want to go to a site that has a connection speed of about 1Kb/s??
my IP: xx.6.82.97 - 1st no removed for security reasons...

If you enable anti-hacking , all bad requests will be counted and the person
will get banned automaticly , the server will appear offline to that one user. |

How could you be getting 1000 and 1000 attacks a day? Normally people only do that type of stuff to big (like cnet.com) sites. You either:
A. Had a high vistor count so that would defintly slwo you down
B. People were downloading stuff
C. Since you have a chat room on your site, maybe bunchs of people were
going to that
D. You had spyware/adware on the comp that had abyss
that rule will only work if every IP block is 3 digits long, hence why I can still connect...
Im not sure about that....i could have swore that xxx.xxx.xxx.255 ment that the x ment anything. _________________

More excuses to switch to Apache. Abyss works nicely with PHP and for
the SSI , from what I understand , all commands worked for me fine. |

I don't think REMOTE_HOST is available on PHP but you can create your own
REMOTE_HOST environment variable , just copy the following php script.
Code: |
<?php
$REMOTE_ADDR = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
$REMOTE_HOST = gethostbyaddr($REMOTE_ADDR);
echo "Your hostname is: $REMOTE_HOST";
?> |
Note: The first 2 lines of code creates the $REMOTE_HOST variable. |

Hrmm. This was an interesting thread. Apparently some of you really don't know what you are doing or know how networking works. This will probably come out sounding like a flame, but those are not my intentions.
The reason no one can access the site is because he blocked every IP and when I mean every IP I mean the whole world. If you know what the different section of numbers are for in each set then you'll know what I'm talking about and understand. If you don't know don't make a comment.
In networking when you specify an IP like xxx.xxx.xxx.1 that means that the x represents any number from 0-9. So when overrisde said he blocked the IPS between xxx.xxx.xxx.1 - xxx.xxx.xxx.255 he effectively blocked all people in the world. Although he may not have meant that. After thinking about it Override may have meant that for certain IP blocks he blocked the ips from 1-255. This would mean he blocked 69.128.212.1 - 69.128.212.155. The number I used was just a made up IP range. It is hard to explain it in short because I could take up a whole page explaining this one thing. If you don't understand I suggest reading a book on TCP/IP, and I don't claim to know everything about TCP/IP (as I only know a little bit) although this topic is a basic one in networking.
I'll make another point, but I'll edit that in later as I need to get going for work. Sorry :(
[begin edit]
Override do you download using p2p apps while trying to serve your website? If so that is why all your bandwidth is getting used. Also, unless you made some person mad or left every single port open you shouldn't be getting attacked. Hackers don't normally go after home users (script kiddies do this). Real Hackers go after the big game like large companies or other hacker groups (in fighting I guess you could call it). But that is speculation on who they go after each has their own agenda. I find it hard kind of hard to belive that your getting attacked constantly as most other people here don't report such complaints. As I believe most use a router that makes your computer "invisible" to the internet. If you don't have one of those and you have broadband I would highly suggest it.
One last suggestion. Don't start off trying learn PHP and those other scripting languages. (as you did say you were a beginner, although I don't know your level as you didn't say what you did know) You should really start off just hosting html and maybe css pages (i use external sheets as I find it easier to manipulate). If you try scripts start off slow like I am. I just want to do a guest book, which I still haven't gotten to work yet; but with other smaller such things I will a lot. Mainly through trial and error. I hope this helps you.
I wrote the post this way because too many people want to dive in head first but don't know the first thing about networking, which when you run a server you should have an understanding of first. Unless you want to troubleshoot all day over minor issues. Believe me I run into this at my job. I work Tech Support at a small ISP. You can always pm people if you want to ask private questions. Ok I've made this quiet long enough. Time for bed.
