Unplug your PC, read your manual for your router and learn how to set up port forwarding properly or install a personal firewall. If you don't have one installed and you've not kept up to date with Windows patches, your computer is probably already compromised... |

hi,
is there anything called virtual hosts or virtual something? dmz is usually something in router that opens all port on 1 specefic computer you choose and that leads hacker to go through the router and to the computer. if you enable dmz then i recommend you use zonealarm and change settings there if you dont know about virtual hosts or anything like that _________________ Visit http://web26.hopto.org:443/ please help me make my site better http://web26.hopto.org:443/ |

The principle is the same, it involves reading that little bit of paper that came with your router. Port forwarding is for static lan IPs, it doesn't matter if you have a dynamic internet IP. Just set your LAN IP's to be static and set up the port forwarding. |

Don't worry, I read it plenty of times.
As Anonymoose said, all routers are essentially the same. They all do the same thing, and they mostly all have the same features--including US Robotics. I can't write a 5 page tutorial outlining a step-by step guide for every single brand of router; as I (1) don't have every single router, and (2) won't waste my time doing it. I wrote it intending for people to tweak it to their needs; and that's what most people have done.
Also, nowhere in that tutorial did I say that "...port forwarding is for static ip's..."
Here's the deal. Get your LAN IP address, by typing "ipconfig" in the command prompt. Go into your router configuration, and look for "Virtual Servers" or "Forwarding." Look for something like "192.168.123.[blank]" and type the last digits of your IP in the box. Then, choose the port that you set Abyss up with. If you don't remember changing anything, then type the default port 80. If you did change Abyss's port, then it is your responsibility to remember what you changed it to. (Try looking in the console). You can go ahead and hit OK. Your website should now work by typing the EXTERNAL IP into your browser.
Note: Some routers do not support loopback. Because I am not psychic and/or rich, I cannot tell you every single router that doesn't support it. I know that D-Link doesn't, but you said US Robotics, so I can't help you there. If you want, post the IP here so we can check it (or use a proxy server; search the forums if you don't know what it is).
On A Side Note:
When you use a computer, and when you investigate something new, there are two skills you need: Logic, and improvisation skills. Every single tutorial and guide will not be written with you in mind. You need to take the information that is given, and tweak it to your needs. If you don't want/can't do this, then you will be better off using services such as Geocities.
Grammatical note: "you" is plural. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I wasn't referring to "you" as an idiot, for two reasons: (1), I never said it, and (2):

I can help you via remote assistance, however I do not use MSN Messenger. If you would like to set it up, contact me via Personal Message, Email Me, contact me via AIM. If you are set on using MSN Messenger, then wait for TRUSTpunk--as he is the only one here who does that. _________________ Bienvenidos!
