Okay I've set up the abyss server on my computer but I seem to be having some problem. I called my ISP and asked if they block any ports and they've said no. I've changed the port number from 80 to a 100 others but still it doesn't work. What happens is that I can see my site with the local ip which is something like 127.0. w/e and when I go get my ip from whatismyip.com and I try http://iphere and it still doesn't work. Currently my site url is http://chaldos.no-ip.org can anyone help me please.

I meant, did you download the client updater from them to update your ip.?
and if not, you should, and if so, you should update.
also make sure your writing it down, becuase no-ip.info, and no-ip.com look quite similar...

it's been a while so you probably got it under control by now but if you havn't then ill try to help
most isps do block port 80 and the customer noservice rep u talked to prolly didnt know wtf they were talking about but hopefully im wrong its nice to not have port 80 blocked, but anyhoo if its a firewall problem i cant help ya youd have to check out how to fix it in their documentation either software or router or built into the modem
but anyhoo if it is the isps fault you can try changing the port#
if it truely isnt blocked and isnt firewalled up the yinyang then http://ip should work.
if it doesnt go to the abyss console and go to server configuration and change the port number
make sure its not a defaulted port number thats used by another service
i thin;k u mentioned port 100 im not sure if that is used by just try 9998 for the sake of testing then restart the server
then type http://ip:9998 ex http://28.34.748.234:9998
and it should work
if it does then your isp blocks port 80 if it doesnt then you got some other problem
if it does work however and you dont want peoples typing in that stuff everytime they want to see your site then make a zonedit account and set up a webforward for mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com redirects to http://ww2.mydomain:9998 for both then in the ip addresses
set ww2.mydomain.com to ipaddress if you want then you can check cloaked and then when someone goes to your site instead of seeing ww2.mydomain:9998 they will see www.mydomain.com but there are also some downsides to cloaking
some search engines dont like cloaked addresses and when someone exits your site from a link or something your address says up there n stuff its kinda funky :D but better in some ways
hope this helps

When I first set up my webserver, I couldn't connect to it. I spoke to my ISP's technical dept, and they swore that they didn't block Port 80 (only Port 25 outgoing, to stop spamming).

However, when I did a redirect (via no-ip.com) to a higher port number, and mapped my router accordingly, the thing worked perfectly.

Lying b*****ds!!!!!! :D

quote-My ISP profider is Sympatico and I have a dsl connection...

Looked it in for you
Sympatico.ca<- Is your dsl (bell Ontario)
128down, 64~76k upload stream is basic dsl am I correct? with a speedstream modem.(more like speeds of dual isdn, around 16k)
You use access manager 1.5c
with pppoe, I talked to one of the ppl from the tech, very nice to me :)
anyways, they do not block _any_ ports, and do not restrict, also.
The ip which ppl can access your website, roll your mouse over the 2 comps "network" icon on systray, that iop there is the one for internet purposes, it should be something like 64..since its accessed in montreal, if need be, maunual enter this into the client update, also set access manager to start up when comp starts is an option/save password.

If you have any problems, could be firewall, which shoudl allow the webserver to send it to that, also, If your comp goes standby, or sleep it will_not_ respond to server requests.
also, you havent said if you have any router.
also.

(side note thanks to the tech guys for helping ask questions on your side)
so, I hope helps a little, also, tell me if you have a router (if you have wireless ull need more configuring *sigh*)
I talk to them aswell, are u using USB or Network Cable connection? (usb has issues they told me, it disconnects if idle, etc)

Thanks for all your help but however the issue has not been resolved. Currently this is my url: http://64.231.129.21:80 and I'm 100% sure the ip is correct and the port is correct and when I click on the url I can see my own site but when others click on it they cannnot access it. I do not have a router nor any sort of a firewall up yet. And just as foxified had said my isp does not block any ports....I don't know what it is....but if anyone can and still wishes to help it would be really appreciated. and thanks for trying all by the way.

Although they say they do not, they still may block ports. Try port 4048 (a total random number) and see if it works; as 80 does not.

My modem is speedstream but I'm 100% sure that my connection is totally in great position. And netassist I don't know what that is and I'm probably not running it.

It sure sounds if your not matching noip.com port with your web server control panel port config. In fact can someone go to this Url: pcinformation.no-ip.info and tell me what you see. I had the same issue trying those slow proxy sites I continue to get white pages or error pages but it could be their servers. If you get a error page then I'm having the same issue and I know my config is correct. I'm on static cable that changes Ip once every two weeks, no routers and I'm using xp firewall with my own setting.

iNaNimAtE,
Thank you so much. proxyweb.com and other sites like them are bogus I went there and get white pages or errors. I'm convince the poster issue is ip:port isn't correct and like somebody else said dsl can have three IP's so which is he/she using?

If I was KC I would trust one of the old heads in the forum who post a lot and let them fix it for you.

DSL, when using home networking, consists of two IPs: Your external, and your internal. Your external looks something like "65.210.55.101," while your internal looks like either "192.168.1.105" or "10.10.5.13" (those are just examples). Since KC has only one computer, she has only one IP; the external. I have talked with him/her, and [s]he is 100% positive that the external IP is correct. No proxy servers are running, so the only idea I can come up with is a port issue.

people still can't see my site for some reason I have no firewalls running and have no router. Single computer and the ports are not blocked... I don't know what else to do. :(

I honestly hate to say this, but try another web server; just temporarily. If it works, then at least we have narrowed down the problem to Abyss.

Try PWS or IIS (both come with Windows, depending on what version). You can also download Apache; it usually works right out of the box.
