You would need to read my tutorial to get a more visual
image of how MySQL is installed but sadly enough , I tried
installing linux on my PC and screwed up and now im waiting
on my Recory kit that HP is sending me to rebuild my winXP and
HP PC Recovery drive so now I have to wait until Mon or Tue to get
my web server back up and running , my website for the tutorials is
http://os17fan.cjb.net "Should be up on Mon or Tue" |

Well, I had the same problem a couple days ago.
My forums were dead for a week or two; due to the same problem you describe. I also run XP Pro. However, I fixed my problem by doing the following:
1) Right click on the MySQL icon in the taskbar (the street light).
2) Go to "Win NT>Stop the service" and hit OK to the prompt that comes up.
3) Go into your task manager, and under the "Services" tab, look for "mysqld-nt.exe" and hit "End Process."
4) Right click the MySQL icon again, and this time, hit "Remove the Service."
5) Once you have done all of that, uninstall MySQL.
6) Go back to the MySQL website and download a fresh copy of their newest stable version.
7) Go ahead and install it.
Although it may seem a little redundent, that is exactly what worked for me. Hopefully, it will fix your problem also. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

The MySQL documentation is very thorough, and includes many references to error logs which will tell you exactly why the system isn't booting up properly. The five seconds of green you experience aren't five seconds of happy normal runtime, that's how long it takes to set the light green, run through the initialization, and fail to actually start.
I had similar problems and solved them by setting MySQL to run in debug mode, and going through the log one error at a time. Eventually I had to reinstall it and pay more attention to which deamon it was trying to run, what passwords were in use, etc.
Still not sure why it just up and died one day, but checking your error logs will definitely help you solve the mystery. |

Grrrr. Nothing I try is working. I am about to give up this is so frustrating. But it's not for something like a forum where I can find somethink else to run it. Its for my Business my shopping carts are reliant on IT IS the ONLY things i can use. this really sucks. The manual for mysql is nothing but way to long and I don't have the time to go through 1200 pages to find a few blerps about how to fix it. Grrrrr. |
