Message "can't find server" shows when I type address. When I double click at task bar and bring up the server address and click on it I immediately get the index of the site but not the site itself
http://127.0.0.1/ this brings up index of site
http://67.113.69.37 brings up "can't find server" message

What should I do to correct this

Start by explaining more about your system.

Are you behind a firewall ?
Do you use a router ?
Do you use Windows XP ?

Check the Aprelium FAQ...

I went to DOS and entered an IPCONFIG cmd. I got a different address from what the FTP has been in past, but tried it anyway ---- and it worked. Or at least I think it is working. Still need to check out a few things and send persons who use it the NEW ADDRESS.

thanks,
jerome

I tried the FAQ's but did not find solution. Once you have opened the Console how do you determine what external address server should be using. My FTP is connected to a Router, it's DSL, runs on windows xp. Someone who isn't here set it up, so that explains part of my dilemma!!
the address that worked fine for quite some time was 67.113.39.37/
So when It began to throw up the message "can't find server" I did a cmd IPCONFIG on it and used the address of the computer 192.168.1.115/
That works fine internally but not for the net in general which is why the FTP was set up! Christina trying to use it wrote: Um, found something out today...
IP addresses which are 192.168.x[etc.] are reserved for internal
networking. In other words, I would never be able to connect unless I were
a member of that network internally.

You need to look up the external IP address. Find out from the
administrator what the external address would be.
================================
so that's the story ---- any ideas on how to reactivate 67.113.39.37/
thanks
jerome

your external ip address can be found here
http://www.aprelium.com/ip/
your router is the one assigning you 192.168.-.-
go to your router configs and forward port 80 to your 192.168.-.- ip...

You have me tantalizingly close to a solution! How do I find the router config ---- what kind of cmd do need to type in order to call up the router config? Here's current info that might help some:
Abyss Web Server X1 (v 1.1)
Copyright © Aprelium Technologies - 2001-2002

Configuration file: G:\aa-WEB-STUFF\abyss.conf

Server Port: 80 - Console Port: 9999
Web server local URL: http://127.0.0.1/
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999/
==========================
http://127.0.0.1/ can't be found
http://127.0.0.1:999/ throws up error 404 file not found

do you have a popup blocker running?
disabling if you do should help u get to your local address 127.0.0.1

as far as setting up your router
try going to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0
youll need to look at your routers manufacturers web page for more info on password and configuring port forwarding
