|
|
I wish to get some ikonboard forums going, and I need some help. Mainly, in the ftp area, which I why I am posting this here. I know that abyss doesn't come with its own ftp server, and that is why I have SmartFTP downloaded. (Remember, I need to upload files in ascii and binary)
What do I have to do to abyss web server in order to allow an ftp server to upload files to it? Has anyone done this before, for if you have, I could also use a little help setting up the ftp server as well.
I'm not limited to SmartFTP, I am willing to try anything that works. _________________ ReptileKing234

All you have to do is make an aliases to your abyss web server htdocs folder to upload files from the FTP , don't allow deleting unless password protected 8) _________________ This web server is the best ! |

ReptileKing234,
Many scripts such as Ikonboard will instruct you to upload the files using FTP. This makes sense if you are hosting your site on a distant web server. But since Abyss is running on your computer, you don't need any FTP access to put the files in the web site directory. Use Windows Explorer to copy/move the files to the location where the web server can read them. _________________ Support Team

Yeah, I thought about that, but they tell you have you have to upload then either in ascii or binary. So, I'm not sure if that changes the actual format of the files or anything. Do you know? _________________ ReptileKing234

Not nescessary in your own LAN,
but from outside your LAN an ftp server is verry handy.
Such as this one.
Just use Ws_ftp to upload and click the auto function (then it switches automaticly between ascii and binary) ;) |

well, the ftp was working for a while, and I think I screwed something up 8O For it is no longer working. In my aliases tab I have /htdocs ... but it isn't working. My ftp server says that the machine actively refuses it.
Also one other thing that I am not sure about. I only want one username to be able to upload files via ftp, but I want to let everyone else (besides the people I've banned) to have access to my web site, located in htdocs. thanks. _________________ ReptileKing234
