| I want to make it so that my Gateway box (running windows 2000 Pro SP4) does not respond to pings on the external NIC ... How do I go about doing this? |

Install a personal firewall like Kerio or ZoneAlarm.

www.zonealarm.com
Windows 2000 only has built in TCP/IP filtering functionality, nothing for ICMP unless you start using IPSec which probably a bit too technical for your needs... Using a firewall is a lot more end user friendly, with the added bonus of protection from spyware / trojans if set up properly |

| OK I thought that would be the answer ... I didn't think that Windows 2000 alone could do it but I'm not about to run those programs on my gateway server - thanks. |

If you're determined to do it without a firewall, this is a pretty good article on using IPSec snapins in Windows 2000.

You could just install Kerio and turn off all rules except ICMP blocking though... |
