Does anyone know where I can get software to set up my own grid network? Ive seen loads of great reports about it and I thought it might be an idea to try it out myself.
Our college was going to set up a grid network during the night for researchers and the NHS to use etc. This would be good because there are over 800 pc's all running AMD Dual Core 2.6GHz processors. Work that out and it equates to over 4160GHz (4.16TeraHz) of processing power. Even though I could never acheive that much at home I'd still like to do it :-)
Any help is appriciated.
BTW, I have searched google but couldnt find any programs capable of doing it. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

There's the BOINC client for unix that lets you add custom projects, not sure about windows. _________________

Well I dont have unix so I need windows. Also its not really for a project, I just want to experiment. All the ones I have seen need to you give a good reason to use the system for your project. As I dont have one its useless :-( _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

It's not as simple as just throwing an application onto Windows and suddenly finding your whole network available for processing. If you want to experiment on small scale with this, have a look at ClusterKnoppix - you can burn a bunch of CDs and reboot your lab PCs into a clustered Knoppix environment without touching the Windows installs...

If you don't want to touch Linux at all, you're going to have a lot of reading up to do :) _________________

Thats my point. I dont want to know what I cant do, I want to know what I can do. If I can do it with windows then great, but not Linux. For a start I know nothing about linux and Im not in a situation to start learning just yet. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
