Does anyone know how to set up a dns server? Lycos is quite unreliable at times and it would be better to have it on my own server. That way if my connection is down then it doesnt matter because so is the DNS :-)
Anyone? _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

If Lycos is so unreliable don't you move your domains, etc to another provider?
I have had no problem with 1&1, and you get full DNS control, and for about 69p per month you can have 5 1GB POP/IMAP email boxes. _________________ Olly |

The thing is I dont want to move my domains because I know what I can get from Lycos. Everything works how it is I just want to host the name server myself.
Lycos is great and I even pay them £60 a year for my professional hosting package (very little downtime). Running a dns server just seems like a challenge I could take up. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I've said before... If you have to ask how to set up a DNS server, you're not ready to run your own DNS server. There are just too many pitfalls, especially given the reliability of UK broadband...
Look at just using ZoneEdit to control your DNS instead. _________________

My broadband has had an uptime of 99% over the last 4 years. I dont think reliablity is an issue. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
