Just to set the record staight for a friend here, I would like everyones opinion on the answer to this question.
Is it possible for a peugeot 306DIESEL with higher ratio gears to beat the 140mph mark when a standard 306 diesel is rated at 161kph/100mph (link to prove it http://cars.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_12247797/100354123.html ) ???
Thanks in advance for your input ;-) _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Initially no, I was just guessing for postcount, but judging by reply that wasn't what you were looking for.
In honesty I'd say probably not, its the engine that determines the speed, and I doubt a diesel and petrol engine are that different. Although I can't be arsed with proof and don't know anything about peugots (sp?). _________________

Thats better. Diesels are generally slower than petrols but they have pully power.
This post is a waste of time now since my friend said he couldnt care less what anyone else says he is sticking to his theory :-s _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

The Inquisitor,
It is highly unlikely that a 306 XND with a Diesel engine can go faster than 180 Km/h (112 Mph). Only the versions of 306 with non-Diesel engines seem to be able to (see http://www.306inside.com/vos306.html ).
For example, the 306 XSi can reach 200 Km/h (125 Mph) while the 306 S16 maximum speed is 240 Km/h (150 Mph). _________________ Support Team

Thanks for the input aprelium. I have proven him wrong but not because of the links, but because of one small flaw he made.
He changed the gearbox and because of the different ratios the speedometer is now inaccurate (the 306's have them connected to the gearbox) so he was actually doing 110mph not 140mph. He is having his original gearbox refitted has he was pulled over for speeding last night and its cheaper to replace the original box than to recalibrate the speedometer.
Thanks for everyones input ;-) _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
