In theory all CPU's should be good at running a web server (assuming they are fast enough) as not much processing needs to be done on the server.
I've only used an AMD Athlon XP 1600+, and that is fast enough at 1400 MHz. _________________ Olly |

AMD processors are better for gaming, asmost people know, and Intel processors are better at mathematics, so an intel processor would be best for a server. Given that the intel xeon is the top of the line processor from intel; made for servers, I would go with an intel xeon. _________________

Any processor is good for a web server. A web server uses only integer operations (no FPU is needed).
For Abyss Web Server, the more processor cache memory (L2 cache) you have the better the speed will be. _________________ Support Team

Don't forget the Pentium M! Considering the recent "costs to run a server thread", I've found that Pentium M based dekstops are very power efficient, especially for home servers which are not continuously under full load. Oh, and don't let the lower clock speeds fool you: P-M's sometimes outperform P-IVs! |
