Why do people set their status to away or busy all day? Its annoying. This is a screen shot from my list today. Whats the point in being online if you are not there to talk! I'm the only one set to online! (I added myself so I always have someone online :P)

| Some of the people I know do it so they can say they were online all day, when they really weren't, or just like to annoy people. |

Yeah, I agree I sometimes do it but I reply to people when I return, 9/10 people I do talk to don't reply when they return.

| Sometimes they bump there mice or keyboard or Messenger will automatically sign you back up as online if you use your computer. |

I always set my MSN to away after 1 minute of no activity, that way if I forget, I don't get complaints that I never replied to people even though I was online.

Thats what I would think but its a hot day so most are probably soaking up the sun (or the rain at the moment) or just can't be bothered to go on the computer.

| Anyway, why are you using MSN Messenger? MSN Messenger sucks, too much ads, slow and unstable. And guess what, it's created by Micro$oft. Download Miranda IM, or Gaim if you use GNU/Linux. |

1. Linux is crap and I hate it.
2. MSN is easy to use and more people use it than AIM, ICQ etc.

Linux is better, this is just fact. Yet, the computer-world is totally run by the big company that created Windows. Most of the people using Windows use these arguments;
- It works
- It's easy
- Everyone's using it
Well guess what, it's easier on getting help with Linux than with Windows! If you get stuck with Windows, you make a bug-report and in a few days/weeks/months/years there will be an update that fixes this. But what about the time when you can't do anything about it? You just sit there. In Linux, you post the problem on a forum. In a coupple of hours there will be a step-by-step explanation on the problem, and maybe even a piece of code that fixes this for you.
Linux is free, you can use Windows applications in Linux. You can communicate with a Windows based network in Linux. xmms, amaroK, Kaffeine - choose your own, there's lots of them.
When you buy new hardware, you always get some kind of software included to run the hardware "in a better way". These applications are always for Windows, so you wont be able to use the hardware in Linux, only in Windows, right? No. There is software for everything in Linux. Everything is also open source, so you can edit it and learn by it as much as you want.
Linux is;
- Faster
- Working
- Better
- Easier
- More user-friendly
- Open source
- Free
The Linux-market is huge, there is a lot of versions to choose between. Gentoo, SuSE, Slackware, Knoppix, Mandrake, Damn small and Red Hat - just to mention a few. These are updated - constantly. About 70% of the users are developers, so you can actually say that the OS is developing itself.
There's plenty of programs to change the way your Linux works and what it looks like. KDE, GNOME and Fluxbox are just a few. You can edit the way they look just like you like it.
Since Microsoft wants to keep as many customers as possible, you can not access Linux based networks or Linux computers connected to a Windows based network. In fact, if you have both Windows and Linux running on your computer, you can only access Windows from Windows. From Linux you can access everything.

MSN and MSN Messenger isn't the same thing. MSN Messenger is Microsofts MSN-client, MSN is the protocol. Of course I, like everybody, use MSN. But not the client. In Windows I use Miranda IM, and in Linux i use Gaim or Kopete. BTW, if you want the regular "MSN Messenger"-feeling in Linux, download aMSN. aMSN looks like MSN Messenger.

It's not just the ads, I don't like the feeling of "I'm using something that's not open source".

No that's wrong, I installed Linux and couldn't get the network going as I couldn't find any drivers for my network card. Linux is not ready to become a real threat yet, as you need extreme patience just to get it to install.

It might be hard to configurate Linux, but when it's done, you take a backup and you don't have to ever do it again.

So then why was I told on a forum that their are no drivers for the Netgear EA201 Ethernet Card? Also Linux has destroyed the hard drive I installed it on to, I can't get rid of it's boot manager. I will NEVER be using Linux again!

I'm not going to get into the whole Linux vs Windows argument. Horses for courses... Use the tools you are happiest with to do your job/hobby.
However, a bit of research would have told you how to get rid of the boot manager you installed. You can either boot from a Windows 98 startup disk and do
fdisk /mbr
to write a new boot sector, or use a Windows 2000/XP CD ROM to do a boot to the recovery console and use
fixmbr
to remove it.
Same goes for the ethernet card. A quick google reveals that you should be able to use the generic NEC 2000 driver.

I tried that but it didn't work, the card was not identified after those drivers where installed.
