1. Get Mepis from http://www.mepis.org/
2. Burn the CD
3. Reboot your computer with the CD in it
4. Press the "install me"-icon
5. Reboot your computer without the CD
Done!

Uhh...do what cmxflash says only if you want to lose your windows install.

You must create another partition and install linux onto that. Linux and windows have been know not to play well in the same partition.

Actually, you can test drive Mepis by running it directly off the CD. (similar to Knoppix)
After you boot the CD, you need to login as a demo user. username/pass: demo/demo

It will obviously run a little slow, but you will at least get an idea of what to expect if you
decide to install it on an extra partition. (as k1ll3rdr4g0n stated above)

I tried something from another post, which I couldn't get to work! It is supposed to put the linux into the RAM part of your computer and you could try it out... here is the post:

For those who dont know Linux, but want to try it...for an hour or so, you can download a Live CD.
You simply burn the iso, and boot your pc. Nothing will happen to your current OS.

The Linux OS runs from the CD.

A collection of Live CD`s can be found here:

My personal favorite is SLAX, wich can be found here:

Some screenshots of Slax:

Just give it a try :-)

Most modern Linux distro's will detect that XP is installed and add it to the grub/lilo bootloader for you. You will need to make sure that you have some unpartitioned space available - I wouldn't trust a Linux install to resize my NTFS partitions for me, yet.
