I just signed up with Google Adsense like Aprelium have but I don't know how to filter out everything but stuff to do with web hosting and such like. I have read through the help and FAQ but it says nothing.

Aprelium, can you help? I just keep getting 'Find a date' ads... :(

AdSense is targeted ads. It displays adverts that are related to the content of the page that the visitor is viewing. You have the ability to not show ads of your competitors through.

I know that but it just shows dating ads and things like that, it doesnt show things to do with webservers or hosting like Apreliums ads do.

I offically hate ads. An ad free website shows that you have dedication and that you are in it for the personal satisfaction of yourself without money.

Thats exactly what I wanted it to be but because I am still in college and don't have a job yet, I need something to help keep the site online. I mean OK, it will soon be hosted for free on my Dads broadband but then you have to think:

The speed isnt very fast
I need to pay for the electricity for the computer running it
I need to pay for the broadband (or at least help my dad out with it)
I need to maintain the server, if it fails, fork out money to fix it (if its a HD or something)

Lots of things come into play, most requiring money. The only thing that doesnt require money is the time and dedication to the site, which I already put in anyway.

I agree with ads, in moderation of course.
They help the site owner pay for the bandwidth etc, and help make the site free.
If my actual site was half decent, I would add ads to that, when I finish my new project which wont use so much bandwidth, I will use ads also.

Google Ads system needs time to start displaying the ads that better match your site topic.
But can you post here some URLs where you have inserted ads to help us have a better idea about the pages contents?

I havent added them yet but I may give up with the whole ad idea. As someone said above, it shows dedication and attention if there are no ads. It shows you run the site for fun rather than money. I may do just that. If I change my mind ill let you guys know.

the best ads i think are round robin ads, like several people with similair websites all have ads on each others sites, it is still ads but they are ads people are interested about not 'order your next wife online' or 'you have won 100$ click here to claim your prize' or whatever and clicking the ad means you are linked to a site which actualy has soemthing to do with the site you were just at ((usualy)) and can at times be as helpful

but then again getting money for people clicking thru ads isnt a bad deal... some extra money every now and then wouldnt hurt, heck some free hosting sites that offr free webspace and accsess to alot of features make all thier money not form hosting but form the insane amounts of ads they stick on your website

The reason I like Google ads is that unlike other ads they are not "in your face", but are fairly discrete. Many web sites that I visit have flashing Adverts, which distract the viewer from the real content.

I agree with what you are saying. If I do get ads it will be for the main site and will me discreet. I won't force people to put them on the ones I host for people, that would just be unfair.

I was going to say that Aprelium's advertising is so discrete that I hadn't noticed it, then I realised that I'd blocked pagead*.googlesyndication.com in Firefox and completely wiped them out :D

I do prefer the google ads to any other kind of advert, but they can get irritating when they consistently don't show content that has any relation to the pages you're viewing...

Yeah, ive sometimes quite litterally wanted to shoot the screen where the duck was on some of the adverts =P
And my firefox's popup blocked has screwed itself over too =(

Google Adsense is probably the best program because it displays always relevant ads. Some of them are quite useful (No-IP, ActiveHTML, Domain names) and can help people visiting this forum to have some nice offers related to what they are looking for.

We do not earn a lot of money from these ads but the generated income helps having a good server with almost no limited bandwidth. And we're sure that you've noticed the improved speed and quality of the service since we've moved to the new server in January.
