Hi, excuse me but I am totally new at hosting from home and have been searching and searching and cannot find the answer. I am running win XP Pro, adsl connection using D-link DSL302G modem and D-link DL-704P router. I have setup zoneedit and web server using Abyss server, and direct update running. When I go to whatsmyip.com i get 2 ip addresses the first is the main one which is the one given to me by my isp and another one which is proxy. First question which do i use? Secondly if i put my ip address in the url i always end up inside my modem, why? I cannot seem to get from www to my server I keep getting the following:
The following error was encountered:
Connection Failed
The system returned:
(111) Connection refused
Could someone please help out here as I have been trying different combinations for days now. Thank you very kindly. |

Berniez,
Use your IP address and not the proxy's.
When you try to connect to your external IP address from inside your LAN (or behing your router), most of the time you could not connect as most routers do not support loopback.
So to see how the world sees your site, you'll have to browse it from an external source such as http://www.proxify.com .
To work locally on your site, you can still use http://127.0.0.1 . _________________ Support Team

The problem does seem to be through a loopback, because I just tried accessing using my ip number from my laptop connected via dial-up separately and i managed to get to my web server, so it does seem to work. How can you make it so that you can see your own site from your own computer inside the lan witout using localhost. I would like to see it through the web.

Berniez,
Do you want to use your full domain name from inside your LAN (using something like http://www.mysite.com where www.mysite.com is your "external" domain name)? _________________ Support Team

Try accessing your router information. Go to something that has to do with "Forwarding" and set it so it forwards to your real IP Address on the port you are using. You can determine your real IP Address by opening the command prompt and typing ipconfig and pressing enter. The first IP Address on the list will be the correct address. Put it in the IP Address section so it forwards your information. I did this when I had a problem like yours, and it worked. Let me know your results if you haven't already solved the problem. |
