I was wondering how many people use a desktop computer as a small server, and how many use a big server from like IMB or something. I was also wondering what a good server would be for someone wanting to host Counter-strike source games, and maybe a website too. |

It all depends on how many players you plan to have online at the same time.
Any machine will do if it is fairly powerful under the hood. You can get away with a
2gig CPU with 512mb of RAM. For best preformance, a 3gig CPU with 1gig of RAM
will handle just about anything you throw at it.
But more importantly, you MUST have a good internet connection. Depending on
the number of players you have online, it's hard to have low latency and low ping
using DSL or cable. It's possible if you only have a few players online, but dedicated
bandwidth is highly suggested. |

You don't even need that much, 512MB RAM, and a 2.0GHz processor works in my past with gaming. Watch out for memory leaks, however.
Anyways, yes, you need the best upload speed you can get seeing as how most ISPs always give a good download. |
