In Firefox, when I click on the thumbnail of a picture (which is linked directly to the large size jpeg image), it doesn't display it in the browser like is should. It asks me if I want to open it or save it to disk. It works fine in IE, but not in Firefox, and I've tried renaming the jpeg extensions in lowercase and it still won't work. If there is a solution, then please let me know. Thanks. |

ok. Then, if it has nothing to do with Abyss, why does it work fine when I use Microsoft Internet Information Services? It sounds like a compatability issue between Firefox and Abyss to me. |

So, glyde51, why are you responding to my post if you aren't going to give me any helpful information. I will repeat myself one more time, and if you still can't help me, then please avoid the sarcasm and just don't reply. I was using Microsoft Internet Information Services, and I was wanting to give Abyss a try. Now, when using Microsoft Internet Information Services, Firefox does not have any problem displaying the pictures like they should be displayed. When using Abyss for my web server, it does have a problem. Now, obviously, Abyss isn't doing something that Microsoft Internet Information Services is doing, or vice versa. There is not a preference in Firefox to avoid this that I could find (if you can find one, then please let me know, but I don't think Firefox is the problem). |

I don't know if it would help for you to see exactly what it's doing; but if you're interested, my site is www.baderstein.com
I have the Abyss server running right now. |

2. IIS sucks, Apache doesn't have as many exploits, and Abyss has almost none.
3. Maybe it's only you that has this problem, I right click and go to view image and it doesn't force me to download it on my Abyss server. |
1) Good for you. Give yourself a shiny star.
2) Completely off topic.
3) It isn't only LarryB23. See below.
Summary : Got nothing useful to say? Shut up.
Just installed a fresh copy of Abyss X1 from Download.com and threw a random JPG file in my htdocs directory.
Accessing it via Random.jpg it loads immediately in Firefox.
Accessing it via Random.JPG I get the download/open prompt.
Something is not quite right...
Larry, although you say you've renamed the images to a lower case extension, how are you linking to them? Seems like unless the actual request is made in lower case the image is served without the correct MIME type...
Edit :
Just clicked reply and seen your further post and checked out the site. As I mentioned above, I now see that your actual links to JPG files do indeed end in .JPG not .jpg - I think this is what is causing your problem.
You can either change the links to lower case - lots of work I'd think unless you have a nice editor with search and replace throughout! - or add JPG JPE JPEG as further extensions for the JPG mime type in the Abyss console. If you haven't changed your default port, a direct link to the MIME types page is http://127.0.0.1:9999/mime.chl
Just tested the second solution and it works fine - should save you some work. |

Wow, Thanks Anonymoose! You're a life-saver. It never occurred to me that the link to the image must also have a lowercase extension. I just added JPG to the mime type and it works great. Thanks so much! |

You're welcome!
Odd little problem that - combination of Abyss having case sensitive MIME types and Firefox not automagically guessing a filetype like IE I think. If it's still present in the beta (I tested with X1) you should mention it to Aprelium... |

As far as we know, the new version (2.0) is not case sensitive when it comes to MIME types/extensions. |
