Hello,

I host a web service to a few friends but they were recently complaining about slow access. I currently host it over my broadband because A, it is cheaper, B, I have all the webspace I need, and C, Its easier for me to update my own site locally rather than FTP.

One friend was telling me (he works for a Network Management company) that the broadband services around the world are only use 15% of their maximum bandwidth even at peak times. What I don't understand is why they wont give us a higher upload speed instead of the standard 256kbps (about 24KB/s) which they are doing at the moment.

Their networks are VERY capable of at least 5x the bandwidth of what it is now, and still have loads to spare, and this applies if every person with broadband in the world gets this increase.

I know we only get what we pay for but I still thing 750(down)/256(up) is still way too low for the average user.

Andy.

Because all they want to do is make your money. I bet if you called them up and asked fro more speed theyll tell you you have to pay more =X.

Yeah I know but they give so little bandwidth for so much money. £25 a month is a lot to some people (not myself, I don't pay it :) ).
