I've just installed My SQL. This is needed for a PHP Guestbook application I'm trying to install.

I get to the point where I have to run install.php then I get a mysql connection error.

I'm a total MySql newbie so I suspect it's something to do with the mySQL setup or Abyss configuration.

Can anyone tell me what if anything do i have to do in the abyss console to enable MySQL to run?

The message I get is as follows:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\guestbook\guestbook.php on line 30

I've had one thought, should MySql and PhP be installed in a subdirectory of htdocs ? currently they are installed in the servers root i.e. C:\

What hade me think of this is that I've installed another PHP app which works ok on the physical PC it's installed on i.e. the server, but does not work from any other PC connected via TCPIP.

I seem to have got into a bit of a mess with my php installation. I installed have installed php and myphpadmin and all was well.

The only problem I had was that php apps could not connect to the MySql database, but I could log in to the mysql database via mysql?

This led me to think that the Abyss server was still not set up correctly as php and mysql work independantly of each other, just couldn't access the databases from the web page! I then added a password to my 'root' user and now MyPhPAdmin doesn't work :-(

The Error I get is: phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

And from Mysql: #1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client .

Taffman: I've checked the config.inc.php file and can't see any obvious error. Is there something I'm missing in the Abyss Server setup as there seems to be a lack of connectivity between my webpages and the MySQL db.

If you have any Ideas that could point me in the right direction,

My recommendation is to uninstall the following that you already have and
then try to reinstall it again using my online tutorials that provide scr shots.

01. PHP v5 (Very unstable version)
02. MySQL (Delete mysql folder also)
03. phpMyAdmin (Delete it)

Once you uninstall all of these scripts/programs , reinstall them using
my Abyss Web Server Tutorials website located at www.TRUSTAbyss.com

How did you uninstall mysql? If you just deleted the file as suggested by TRUSTpunk, you will run into problems reinstalling the mysql services, because it is listed on your list of computer services. In order to completely uninstall the service you need to remove the mysql service from your computer services list. In order to do this you need to do the following:

To remove the service, goto a DOS (command prompt) box and type 'mysqladmin -uroot -p shutdown' , type your master password if it asks for it.

Then the line after, type in 'mysqld --remove' and this will uninstall and remove the service from the computer. You are now safe to proceed to install your new version.

I didn't know that , deleting the MySQL folder after rebooting your computer
should allow you to remove the service because mysqld-nt.exe will be gone.

If you run into problems doing what I said to do then do the thing that JYD
is recommending but I really have no problems from my technique. LateR!

Ok thanks for the advise. I eventually managed to deinstall by removing mysqld-nt.exe from the registry, a bit extreme but it worked!

All reinstalled and working now... Thanks

I had the same problem and a bit of digging at the php.net site revealed that version 5.0.x versions of PHP do not come with MySQL support built in. I rolled back to PHP version 4.3.9 and have full MySQL support. However, I am getting the following message when I run into the mysql_connect statement in my PHP scripts:

Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

I am a bit confused since PHP is a server-side scripting language and all of this is running on the same server. (That is, MySQL, PHP and Abyss are running on the same Windows 2003 server). I do not have IIS or any other Web server or database system running on this server. How does one upgrade the client on the server without distrubing the database files?

gmasters:

If you are using mysql 4.1.7 you may have to enable/input 'old-passwords' in your my.ini file and then recreate the password for your phpmyadmin user. Mysql administrator (downloadable from mysql.com) provides an easy way to do this - that is, 'easy' if you are hesitant to manually tweak files.

Cheers!
