I've been wanting a simple way to let friends stick files to my web server to have there pictures or what ever hosted on the internet. and recently came across a interesting possible solution: Instant Messengers!
I already use MSNmesenger and Yahoo, both of which allow file transfer. So I was thinking I could make a new profile for each (then turn off the "view on search" etc. crap, so they don't get discovered by the average joe) then set up the accounts on my web server to auto accept files, virus check them, then dump them in to a directory. In theory as long as the person remembers the name for example they send "pic01.jpg" it will be found at: "../hosted/pic01.jpg" as long as i set up the messenger to dump the files in to the "../hosted/" directory.
Just curious of what others thought of this idea. _________________ James Wiger |

You will never know unless you try it...
I would have thought that an FTP upload via a regular FTP server that can validate and also handle anon logins would be far more secure.
a web loader would be better than FTP, as an FTp server is open to abuse. |
