OK...a little help please...
When I point my browser to www.myname.com I get the default Abyss page when you first installed. However, if I add /index.htm or index.html, I get my correct page that I created. If I enter http://192.168.1.250 (static ip of the box Abyss is running on), I get the correct page I developed. If I use 127.0.0.1, then I get the correct page.
Through the console, I have told Abyss to use index.htm. And, it is pointed to the default directory.
So...how the hell am I getting the default Abyss page instead of mine? What am I missing here?
Much thanks to anyone who can help! |

thanks for the reply....
The only index.* that exists are mine...not the default. I tried re-naming the default page and then finally deleting it. Still no luck...had done this before I posted here.
As for port forwarding, I am using a Linksys Cable Mode/DSL router and I am forwarding port 80 to the correct IP address...that being 192.168.1.250.
Any other ideas?
Thanks! |

Try a different port other than 80 and see if that allows you access , don't
forget to change Abyss's port also , link to your site using the following.

Changing the port to 85 and then forwarding that port in the Linksys to the same .250 IP address works.
I double check prot 80 and it is forwarding both UDP and TCP traffic to the same .250 address....so now I am really confused.... |

Edit: Its possible that port 80 is blocked , you will have to run a port
scanner and see if any other applications are using port 80 , later!

Port 80 is blocked? then how am I getting the default abyss page when it does not exist? I deleted every *.htm and *.html file in the htdocs dir until I got the directory listing. I replace the index.htm file on the box running Abyss and when I got to the home page, I now get the correct page. However, when I go to a different machine on the same Linksys, I get the Abyss default page.
I know ISPs often block certain ports, but....when *.htm and *.html are all deleted, how am I getting the directory listing of htdocs? If port 80 were blocked, I should get nothing...yes?
Anyway...the correct html file is now in the htdocs dir....would someone mind surfing over to http://budogeeks.tzo.com and tell me if you get the Abyss page or mine?
Thanks! |

Ok , I edited my last post that port 80 is possibly blocked , the problem you
are seeing right now may be your browser's cache on the other computer.
Edit: Your website does not display Abyss Web Server welcome page
its the browser's cache on that other computer on your network. :)

Note: I was confused by your last post because you didn't tell me if the
port 80 forwarding actually worked , you just said im confused after that.
Since Port 80 is working fine , Congradulations , Welcome to Abyss !

Thanks for that, I appreciate the help.
Let me go beat up the other box and see what happens...
BTW, I have now re-located to GA...Norcross specifically...where are you at.
Thanks to you and the others for the help...
BTW...doesn't the refresh button supposedly reload from the source as opposed to the cache? Or am I a total moron?
Thanks again! |

No problem ! I try my best to help every user I can in this forum.
Sometimes if you hit the refresh button it will clear the cache but not all
the time , one time I tried it in Internet Explorer and it didn't change. |

Ahhhhhh
It will usually refresh from the cache first out of preference, not sure if the browser just asks for the page header to determine if the page has changed but after several refreshes you can usually get the fresh page from the server...
YOU CAN! FORCE a refresh by simply using key combo 'ctrl' + F5 key to force the browser to refresh, this Too may refresh from the cache if you abuse it, too many requests to refresh can get you dropped from the server.
As TRUSTpunk said, refresh first by hitting the refresh button, if you have no joy, resort to the other method of refresh and then only use it sparingly. |

Mine is set and it dont make any difference, I think its more your ISP, if they have set a limit or a maximum number of time you can refresh or they may have an exceptionally long cache update time. |
