I need SMTP application for php mail function.. BUt im totaly lost on what to use and how to configure it. I came along Mercury /32 which I realized others of you on here are using.. Ive been messing with it for about 5 hours but enough is enough. Can any one tell me how to succesfully do this saving me tleast another five hours of tinkering? I have it downloaded.. and the instalation information entered. However if you need it I can always post it to see if I entered the right stuff. Also keep in mind that I may need help with the php configureation file.. I may get it after this or it may still confuse me.. Right now it kinda confuses me but I think I know what information I need to put in.

Mercury/32 mostly works right out of the box. You can go ahead and set up some user accounts (read the manual if you are not sure how to), and if you have a router, you can forward port 25 for safe measure (read this on how to set up port forwarding, and just use port 25 instead). Then, in the php.ini configuration and others that require it, put "localhost" for the SMTP address, and 25 for the port.

Mercury/32 has some good relay settings out of the box also, so you probably won't need to mess with those either.

Unless you want total control, your ISPs mail server would be better. They have 24/7 uptime, better servers, better bandwidth, better IPs, and if they screw up, it isn't your fault.
