I am using the PRO version of Ability Mail Server (v1.17). I have a few different email accounts located at various places (yahoo, local ISP, hotmail, etc)

Most all accounts seem to be getting the emails that are sent, but there are a couple of accounts that are NOT getting the emails.

Does someone know what might be causing this? I suspect a block of some-sort on the receiving server, but what kind? It could be with the way the Ability mail is sending...?? Maybe something else??

Thanks for your input.

(I've used Ability before--quite a nice piece of software).

Anyway, which domains specifically reject your email? I know that some domains will not accept email from unknown domains, and more specifically IPs (such as AOL) to help cut down on spam. You can send a letter to their postmaster asking them to add your domain/IP to the whitelist, and it may solve problems.

What do you use now for a mail server?

I noticed on your site that you offer email addresses. How do you do that? Is that hosted on your local PC as well??

Yes, I host the mail server on the same PC that I host my web server (Abyss).

I now use Merak Mail Server as my server, and it allows remote signups for email accounts (although I tweaked it a bit for my liking). I believe Ability offers remote signups also, doesn't it?

Yes, it does allow for remote setups. However, I am not familure AT ALL with a mail server. I added a new email account but since I am using an IP address for my hostname, I am not quiet sure how to setup the email accounts (example: name@212.343.343.33 ) I do not think that is correct :)

So, I am still learning... The main reason I got the mail server was to have the ability for PHP scripts to send mail.

Hopefully I will learn how the mail server portion works though.

The email address you gave as an example is the correct way to set up an email account when you don't have a domain. Until you get a domain, that's what you can use.

When I add a new account and try to send an email to that address I only get bounce messages. I am sure it has something to do with a misconfiguration somewhere... I just dont know where.

I opened port 25-26 for email and forwarded that to the PC the mailserver is on but still get bounce messages and Outlook Express "Can not find server".

OK... I think I found the final problem. My ISP blocks port 25. Ability Mail Server wont (cant) use any other port than port 25.

I guess I am S.O.L. for using a mail server.

... but changing the SMTP port will break stuff unless you have a forwarding service for inbound mail and use your ISPs servers for outbound.
