Hi,
I have been looking at the Abyss Web Server to do some web hosting but I cannot make up my mind if it is better to run it on Windows or Linux, can anyone give me any ideas, pro's and con's for either of the operating systems?
Thanx in advance.

I run my server on Windows XP at the moment. Its probably one of the easier ways to get a server running. Although Linux isn't really much harder to get a server running on. Either OS can run MySQL, PHP, Perl, Python, etc. Windows can run ASP.NET if you need that.
I actually might switch my server to Linux sometime, since I recently switched to Linux with my desktop computer.
Your best bet is Linux unless you have a copy of Windows. With a good configuration, either works good. If you don't have any Linux experience, you should probably just run a Windows server, unless you like this great chance to get familiar with Linux. _________________ -Blake | New Server :D

I had previously thought of changing my server over to Linux.
What holds me back is accessibility and file permissions.
You could always do FTP for accessibility, but I prefer to use Windows networking because you can open and save a file directly.
As to file permissions, I think it causes needless hassles, since WinXP is quite stable. I find my server going down due to maintenance, upgrades, and power outages more than lack of stability from the OS.
Just my two cents. :) Oh and BTW, Linux earns you about 50 nerd points! _________________ Stephen

By the way, if you go the Linux route I'd use Ubuntu server, although thats because I just prefer Debian-based distros. Plain old Debian would do it too. _________________ -Blake | New Server :D
