I like to create about upto 200 websites with Abyss web server. I am using pentium 3 equivalent and CPU 1.34 GHz and 512 MB RAM. Hard disk is 160 GB. I was planning to create around 200 websites from my home computer with Abyss web server software and I wonder do you think it is possible.

Not unless you have some super quick upload on your broadband connection or those 200 sites will have minimal hits.

Your server speed will also have an effect. If every one of those sites is dynamic then you will easily overload it with those sites.

james2002,

All depends on the average number of hits each site would get and on the type of files served by these sites (dynamic or static).

If you expect to have a majority of static files and medium traffic on each site (around 1 hit/second - ~&
100000 hits/day for each site), your computer configuration will be fine (provided that your connection bancwidth is sufficient to carry all the traffic).

If you have dynamic files, the processing overhead of scripts should be taken into account and your server would be very very slow if all your 200 sites have visitors requesting dynamic pages at the same time. In such a case, a faster CPU and more RAM would help a lot.

It really depends how many people are actually visiting these sites.
And you would still need a super-fast internet connection.
But this would actually be quite interesting to see how it works.
Let us know your results!
