I have read the tutorial on the other site about the DNS, but I cannot understand what they have AT ALL... Can someone please make a better tutorial on this?

Thank you!

DNS is what tells your computer the IP of the domain.

So.. You tell your computer you want to goto google.com

Your computer => DNS server => Server (access via IP) =>Your computer

Now if you type something like 68.98.33.213 in your browser:

Your computer => Server => Your computer.

Thats about as basic as I can get without getting deep into it.

First you will need to buy a domain. (godaddy.com/enom.com) once registered you will be able to input name servers. Im guessing you will be running abyss on a home computer so you will need some dns servers. Sign up at zoneedit.com and download some software that will notify the dns server of any changes in your ip address. Then just input the name servers from zoneedit into the domain control panel which you should have access to!

If you want a .co.uk you can go to lycos UK (www.lycos.co.uk) and buy one from there. I will be able to give you an affilate code meaning you get 15% off all the domain prices.

Prices:

Type | 1 year | 2 years
.co.uk | n/a | £4.80
.com | 11.99 | n/a

If you do use my affilate code both you and me benefit, I get L points which allow me to get free stuff for my hosting space and you get money off your domain.

If anyone wants this affilate code, let me know.

Now... How do I get sub-domains to point to the Abyss Server? Like you have, homeserver.abyssunderground.co.uk

Do I have to use those DNS nameservers or what!?

When you buy a domain, you get access to the DNS or Zone Settings. All you need to do is make a CNAME or ANAME (Only one will work so try both) with the name of your subdomain and in the data section put in your no-ip, dyndns address or your static IP address .

All of this is explained at www.abyssunderground.co.uk , click Current Projects, Making Subdomains.

For more information, e-mail me with questions.
