I have had Abyss running sucessfully since Feburuary using Mandrake 10.1 then Fedora 3
I now have an AMD64 3500+ and have installed Fedora 3 64bit. Now I cannot access the server outside of my network.
I can access the server internally, but not thru proxify.com!
It just sits there forever and doesn't result in an error or a timeout.
My port forwarding rules are still set with port 8000 open.
Any ideas?

the site is address is http://charger.bounceme.net or http://210.84.228.112:8000

Would this have anything to do with SELinux?

Thanks for any help!

grishnak,

This issue is related to your network settings and router configuration and has nothing to do with the operating system.

Is 210.84.228.112 your actual IP? If you have a dynamic IP (most DSL users do not have static IPs), your IP may change from connection session to connection session.

To access the server from the outside, people should use your router's WAN
IP (or external IP). It is the IP assigned to it by your ISP. This WAN IP
can be known by browsing http://www.aprelium.com/ip from your computer. If
you have a router, you must configure it to forward incoming requests to the
web port to your computer so that Abyss Web Server can respond to them.

If your WAN IP changes often, You'll need to use the services of a free DNS
provider that can track those IP changes and give you a DNS name. We suggest
looking at http://www.dyndns.org or at
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/Servers/Address_Management/Dynamic_DNS_Services/?tc=1 .
This way, you'll always access your server using an address like
http://www.yourserver.freednsprovider.com without paying attention to IP
changes.

You can also buy a top level domain name (for example,
my-company.com) and use the associate your external IP with it using the
registrar services or the free http://www.zoneedit.com/ . You can find more
information about this topic in
http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/domain-name.html . You can also find many
messages and discussions on our forum http://www.aprelium.com/forum about
DNS and domain names.

If you have problems to make your server reachable from the outside, we
recommend reading http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/faq.html#A1-2 .

Thanks for the reply

The only reason I ask about the o/s, is that is the only thing that has changed.
I have a dynamic address, hence I use noip.com to forward my ip address, this has been working since feburary.
The noip client is running and I have checked my ip with the apprelium site and the noip.com and both are correct.
The forwarding rule for port 8000 in my dlink has not changed since upgrade.
I have even written a new rule opening a new port (10000) and changed the server to that port with no success.

grishnak,

Since Linux distributions are very different, we recommend asking on your distribution's community forum if your OS comes with a firewall software setup by default.
