I have set up the server (with a dial up modem), using zoneedit and direct update for the IP updates on my work computer. I have a Domain Name that I purchased via web.com. I updated the name servers to show the zoneedit info. I can see my page in AOL when I enter www.thetimberrecycler.com I can also see the page when I access it from my home computer (not on a network) also a dial up. However, I had a friend try to see the page who is on MSN with DSL and they get "page is under construction"? I also tried to see the page via the surf hiden sites and I also ge the "page is under construction"? I log in with different info for home and office, so I cant figure out why??????? _________________ lost and conf. |

Running a server on dial-up? That's not a good idea. |

Dial up isn't a good idea because the bandwidth is very low. You should wait
untill you have DSL/Cable/T1 before trying to host a website on your own. :-)

I agree with Trustpunk. You can't have your server online 24/7 either, since it would be too expencive. |

Right now we get free aol for the next 2 months. We are just in the process of design of the web pages/set up right now. DSL wont be in the building for an estimated 3+ months :-(. So until then I wanted to get everything working correctly. Do you have any ideas why some people cant see the pages (per my initial post)???? _________________ lost and conf. |

Tell your friends to clear their cache in their browser and try again.
If that don't work, see if zoneedit name servers are configured correctly. |

It seems your domain registrar isn't getting the updates from zoneedit.
Check zoneedit's or DirectUpdate's FAQ for info.
I don't know if you properly configured DirectUpdate or not, so here's a tutorial
to glance thru... http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/sbs-directupdate.html
BTW - Several times since lastnight, I get a time-out when trying your domain.
Maybe I just have bad timing. |

I shut things down when I leave currently, so you would not be able to see the pages. I dont get any errors from direct update or zone edit. What is odd is that I can view the pages from home (dial up/aol) with different log on info than my office (which is also dial up/aol). But if I go to a hidden surf site and try to see my page I get the error "page is under construction" Also, if I go to a computer that is on DSL I get the same error? Server is now up, Direct update is running so if you would like to try again???

It could be a Firewall thats blocking us from entering your server. Configure
your Firewall or try a different port such as port 9000 and see if it works. :/
