I have read everyones problems, I have read the faq, I find myself with a greater understanding of ip addresses, networking and such, than most people with questions i have seen, but am clueless. maybe just a simple brain fart.

I have win xp home addition with sp2 on the computer i am trrying to run abyss x1 on. all other programs seem to access internet and serve fine.

I do not use windows firewall. I have another firewall whos settings have been properly set ( but even when i turn it off, it does not work).

I can access my site and console with my ip address from my computer (the real one, not 127.0.0.1) but not across the internet from another computer.

I have a cable modem hooked directly to my computer without a router.

I also have trouble with various ftp servers.

marcmarc,

Try configuring Abyss Web Server to use the non standard port 80. Configure it to use port 8080 or 6666 for example. Next tell a friend (or someone outside your computer/LAN) to access http://IP:8080 or http://IP:6666. Actually this test can help you know if your ISP is blocking port 80 (and probably some other ports.)

Thanks a lot. I thought I already checked that, but I was desperate and checked again. It was just being blocked, strangely enough by my isp I think.

Another problem though, I am trying to get a website, and am having trouble regestering my DNS. This seems to be one of the last things I know little about, so maybe I'm entering it wrong. I asume so because site I use to register my site gives me a "invalid TLD" error.

We recommend browsing http://www.dslwebserver.com for information about DNS.
We recommend contacting your registrar about this error as it seems to be related to their service.

Spot on aprelium. I just checked my account configuration with my ISP and they do block port 80 (among other ports.) I disabled that port blocking, but I can't test it until I went back home and restarted my machine.

Thanks for the tip mate.

Comcast does not allow you to run a server but I wouldn't even care , try port
9000 because it worked for me and for one year on port 80. Have A Nice Day!

Need help setting it up , add me to your MSN/Windows Messenger and I will be
more than happy to help you , my msn is msn@trustabyss.com , Good Luck!
