This question is directed to the forum admins
By transmitting any suggestions, information, material or other content (collectively, "Content") to APRELIUM, LICENSEE (i) represents and warrants that such Content does not infringe upon the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third parties (including but not limited to patents, copyrights, trademarks, or trade secrets) and that he or she has all rights necessary to convey such Content to APRELIUM, and (ii) automatically grants to APRELIUM the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, redistribute, transmit, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in such Content. Further, APRELIUM is free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how, techniques and suggestions contained in any Content or communications that LICENSEE sends for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to creating, manufacturing, and marketing products and/or services using such information.
In the above excerpt from the License agreement references the transmission of content.
Prior to proposing this product as a viable solution to use in production I need to know that this software will not transmit any data to aprelium or another entity unintended/unknown regarding the content served from the application-
Are there any backdoors;tracking mechanisms;covert monitoring routines, calls, functions etc. That would allow the server the application resides on to be compromised,and/or its security measures to be circumvented?
This software is free but not open source correct ?
How are development and maint. costs met?
Thank you for your time and effort in responding _________________ Great just F**kin,Great-Now You've went and broke the entire internet... |

I belive that transmitting to Aprelium refers to any information sent when contacting the development team by email or via the forum. It doesn't refer to Abyss sending out information to Aprelium about what you are serving - there are no features in Abyss which 'phone home'. You can verify this yourself by placing a packet filter between your network and the internet and monitoring all data sent and received by the PC running Abyss.
The only known security flaws are the ones you may introduce yourself by running badly written PHP / other CGI scripts. These aren't flaws in Abyss... |

Abyss Web Server doesn't call home and does't include any spyware or backdoor. Our goal is to build a strong brand and reputation and to make Abyss Web Server a wide-spread software. Using these techniques cannot be of any benefit for us. So we avoid them.
The license excerpt here doesn't refer to "calling home". It is meant to protect us from people who mail us for example suggestions ("hey guys, can you add feature X to Abyss?") and then ask us 3 months later for money because we have implemented feature X pretending that it was their idea.

Aprelium is a privately held company. In other words, people that are working on Abyss Web Server have invested their time and money to produce this piece of software. We hope for a return on our investement with the release of the new professional edition (but the free edition will continue to be distributed and improved.)
