I have not found someone here with the same set-up and problem.
My localhost site comes up but my IP http://24.86.26.42/ does not.
Firefox just times out after a while.
I use no router, just my adapter.
I run the latest zonealarm and have tried XP firewall on and off. Turning ZA off doesn't help.

I really want this to work but don't know what to do!

Try reading some of the other posts. Change the port Abyss runs on.

I believe ths software will work, and work well.
I believe the people who claim that they got it up and running in ten minutes.
But there are dozens and dozens of people posting connection problems in these forums.
My suggestion would be that a comprehensive troubleshooting page be made.

For example,
If you are running a router, try this...
To change a port, try this...

I was very excited to discover this software, and I look forward to solving my problem and using it. However, in the meantime, I've yet to find an easy solution to my problem.

The first sticky post in this section of the forum is exactly that. Now, as I said before, try changing the port Abyss runs on from 80 to something else. Port 80 is blocked by a lot of ISPs.

I, for one, got it up running in less than 30 (because i installed everyting php ect.).

But one of the main reasons that you see connection problems is that they dont know that their ISP blocks port 80. But all in the end, we eventually help them to get it running....

Apache (unconfigured) would probably take me a good 3 hrs straight to get working right.

You should really try and change the port its running on, like Anonymoose says ;).

Hi all, this is my first post (after lurking a little :) I have to agree that getting Abyss up & running was very easy

I also agree with the above comment. Most ISP's block port 80 (well mine anyway PIPEX). So I just port forwarded using my router to another port, added my ip & port with no-ip.com then added all this to my domain name holder with the facilty to translate it to www.mydomain.com .... my 2 bits anyway.
