Ok,, '
Heres one thats been an issue forever:
"How can I view my domain name on my network?
The problem is cause by loop back and cannot be resolved by most routers. Heres a workaround:
Windows Xp
Go To
C Windows or Winnit
System 32 Folder
Drivers Folder
ect Folder
Look for hosts file its a text file. Open it with word pad or note pad. It will look like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
192.168.2.191 www.norriscomputer.com
127.0.0.1 localhost
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My server runs on 192.168.2.191 and my domain is www.norriscomputer.com . If you add this line (With YOUR server location) and Your Domain , When you view your domain on YOUR Computer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows 98:
C:/
Windows
Hosts File
Edit this in the same way.
Note:
Your server may be at :
127.0.0.1
192.168.1.2
192.168.2.1
You will have to look on your router to find the addressee.
This is a workaround using an old fashion method. But It works ;) _________________ Thank You

... It's also one that has been discussed many times. I just can't be bothered reposting it for everyone who asks and can't be bothered to search.

A quick search for loopback or hosts file would have shown this. Still, guess it doesn't hurt to repost... Hopefully this will get stickied and people will stop asking the same basic set of 5 or 6 questions whenever they join.
Nice post. |
