Copy your website from wherever you have it saved into the htdocs folder. The htdocs folder is in the folder you installed Abyss to. |

You only have a copy of your website on your webhost somewhere and not saved on your own PC as well?
If you only have it on your webhost/another PC you will need to download it first. Do you have FTP access to your host, or have you been using a browser based system to upload ? If you have been using your browser, you're going to have to download the whole site by hand (or with a freeware tool), if you have been using FTP, download the site into your htdocs folder. |

As long as wherever you're hosting it provides FTP access to allow you to download it, that's fine - download your website into htdocs and you're done. If you've used PHP/Perl/any other language than pure HTML in creating your pages, you'll need to install support for them in Abyss. You can find the details here :

PHP.ini is in your Windows folder wherever that may be. If you're on XP, by default it'd just be C:\Windows. You can also search your drive for the php.ini file.
Open the file in Notepad and use find to search for the line :
;register_globals = on
Remove the ; from the start of the line. |

Ok I've done that and now have a different error message as follows
Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) in C:\webserver\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\includes\functions\database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!
I then downloaded mysql and tried again to view my site but don't seem to be going anywhere, argghh Rich. |

Did you follow any tutorial to install MySQL ? If not, I'd uninstall it, and install it again following this :
http://os17fan.cjb.net/web/mysql_tutorial.html
After installing MySQL, you'll want to add PHPMyAdmin - the instructions can also be found on the site above. |

Is it me or is my computer? I have downloaded the phpadmin and followed the tutorial to the letter but as with the downloading of my site from my previous server a lot of of files show as windows media icons and when I try to access them they give an unsupported file message this is bugging the crap out of me as I can't do any work with phpadmin or my site! Help is gratefully recieved Cheers Rich. |

Hello Trustpunk,
everything was fine and dandy with your tutorial there wasn't and user or password there, which was great but the files I downloaded activate win media which doesn't allow me to access the files to make any changes I need to, I just don't understand.Cheers Rich will take a look at the new tutorial now. |
